Really all of it. It feels like a movie I would make if I made a movie. I'm a sucker for Martin McDonagh in general. I love his writing. But also Irish storytelling, in general. I just love the way they tell stories.
The performances. The cinematography. The tone. The subject matter. Everything about the movie just sings for me.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I appreciate all that. I love how well made it is, and the things I already mentioned. The story just didn't do enough for me.

Hol up, In Bruges was McDonagh's directorial debut? That's wildly impressive.

I think the themes are way more important than the story. But you and I disagree on what the themes are.
I’d like to hear what you think the themes are. This movie could be a grower for me. When I watch a movie at work I tend not to like it as much as I would have if I experienced it in the comfort of my own home

All very interesting. A lot more in this than what’s on the surface. Feels like a meditation on isolation, loneliness, guilt, loss and pain too. Reminds me of first reformed in that way

There's a point at which a story goes from allowing people to derive their own meaning to muddled and meaningless.

I just started Malignant. Is this supposed to be a spoof? Feels like a movie inside a movie. I don't like it so far.

One of the worst scripts ever written (I still remember when the lady cop responds to getting shot at by declaring "we're getting shot at!") but I loved it for its wild camera trickery, the super striking imagery and the absolutely bonkers turns it takes. I agree that it feels like a movie within a movie

I was going to turn it off but because of you I'll try to finish it. I hope it gets better. I even dislike the lighting. That's rare.

Oh, no, it’s a 2013 James McAvoy movie. I am mostly watching 2013 movies.

Malignant is awesome. I was so shocked they let James Wan to shoot that movie at that scope and released it to theatres.
Also yes, its spoofing some b movies from the 90s in tone.
