I mean, Gigaton seemed to have at these a moderately consistent theme and mood.

I will invest so much more time in these first few songs because they're stand alone. Nothing else on the album will get this focused a deep dive just because the time will be divided between 10 other songs.

they usually have a consistent theme because Eddie writes most of the lyrics and he is generally writing around a specific headspace. But musical/compositional unity is less so. Lightning Bolt and Gigaton didn't feel like they came out of the same moment, recording wise, in the way that the songs on say, ten, did

It's getting ugly.

2 underwhelming songs out of 2, and the snippet we got from Something Special doesn't look great either.

We still haven't heard any of the songs that belong to my favorite clips from the Metal Door Leak. This has me super stoked.

It’s expectations. This seems like a very different album than Gigaton. At this point, with Dark Matter I am expecting Backspacer with snarl. Gigaton fit among maybe a bit more cerebral of a space. They aren’t always going to be there, and thankfully I still don’t think they are in the resigned in getting older phase that Lightning Bolt seemed to be.

None of this is particularly surprising if you listened to Earthling and Hackney Diamonds.

I said this a long while ago, but I expect this to be S/T to Gigaton's Riot Act. Sonicly and lyrically.

Yes. I tolerate the knowledge that Anthony Kiedis is most likely a serial sexual predator because I enjoy his dumb, fun music. But that's what I signed up for with RHCP back in 1994, and I've never had any expectations otherwise.

You're a man of many layers. I respect it (other than the whole sexual predator brush off).
In Trag’s defense, some people here still seem to enjoy Arcade Fire.
Not to mention Lennon, Page, Bowie, etc.

I'll admit it, im underwhelmed by what i've heard so far. But Running, at least on paper, was always the red flag to me. I'm just hoping that my initial hunch was right that it was always going to be a bottom two song on this record for me.
