Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

Whew that was awesome. I love the look and the feel a lot.

Luke's lines about how there's so much more after Rey say's she sees the light and the dark. That's something serious. Combine that with his line about the how the Jedi need to end makes me think he's training her in a new way, a new approach.

Maybe he thinks a new approach will help put end to the centuries of conflict between the Jedi and the Sith.

Also im a little hesitant to think that they are trying to tie in all the comics, books, and cartoons to it. its a massive undertaking and might require everybody to participate in other mediums which is unlikely.

If so, I heard it as stating that Rey is something else, the thing that comes after the Jedi.

Or maybe he himself has become more than Jedi.

Or maybe he's just wallowing in self pity since his Jedi Academy failed/ he failed as a teacher to Ben. There is great precedence in his being a whiner.

I think this is all tying back to what George intended with the prequels and explored more fully in The Clone Wars: the Jedi aren't as noble and good as they believe themselves to be. This new trilogy might connect some major dots and provide real closure. It might all come full circle. Christ this is exciting! I'm having a hard time articulating what I'm thinking/feeling about those images and that line.

But ultimately the Force is not something that can be tucked away and forgotten. So what is bringing balance to the force exactly?
What does Luke have in mind? He may not literally mean to end the jedi, and im sure that Dialogue was placed in the trailer as its so provocative. In the greater context im sure it will mean something far more poignant and im excited to find out.

In lukes isolation I am certain he had learned plenty about the History of the Jedi and came to the realization that the Sith/Jedi battle has brought nothing but Chaos to the Galaxy and he would like to end that.

Exactly. I'm sure that will be a big part of it. Let's be clear: I'm not saying he's advocating and end to The Force or anything like that. I think this movie, this trilogy, is going to introduce the film audience to what we've been seeing in the animated series' for a while now. The Jedi are not the Force. Ending the Jedi is not the same as ending the Force. I wonder if Lucasfilm isn't trying to get us used to the idea of new Star Wars stories (that will still include the Force and maybe even light sabers, etc) without "Jedi." The Jedi Order will be gone. And we'll focus on whatever comes next.

If you haven't been, you REALLY REALLY need to start reading the comic series. It's exploring these ideas in ways you can't possibly imagine.

Just caught that. I like that. I remember JJ Abrams discussing TFA and the new trilogy. I believe he said something about exploring what is actually evil and what is actually good. These blurred lines and i think that is what Luke is actually addressing. This is awesome

Yeah very cool concepts. Can't wait to see where it goes with it. Breaking away from the simple black and white/good vs evil paradigm has great potential.

I don't think they'll do anything that requires people to consume other media.

I think they are tying concepts from other media, things other media have been dancing around for a while now. But I think they'll tie in all together in such a way that consuming other media will enhance the experience but won't be necessary to enjoy/ understand the film(s).

They have trade paperbacks collecting each storyline. Also, I'm sure you find them torrented somewhere.

This last storyline features Yoda and the very ideas you mention. Luke is reading about it in Obi-Wan's journal.
