Yeah the content isn't really in his wheelhouse (though "vivisection" seems like a word he'd use), but the melody/vocal cadences and guitar playing remind me of him a lot.

Absolutely. It also (like a lot of Colin's music) has country element to it, as well. This song is 100% in my wheelhouse. I goddamn love it.

I like it a lot too. As someone who hasn't really taken a shine to "Retrograde" or "River Cross" yet, this song has been the perfect ending to this album for me.

I like every track. And River Cross really really clicked for me (finally) yesterday. So, I would still want to keep that track. But have no problem with a version of this record that ends with CTG. Great closer. If that's where it ended I wouldn't be bothered at all by that.

During last week's live stream Colin said that his look (what he was wearing during the concert) was "quintessential burglar." I think that would make a great Decemberists song. Maybe in an alternate universe that song is this song.

nice! I love a lot of what Colin does, so honestly, if he wrote a song about the goddamn hamburglar I'd be all in. I bet he'd even work in a robble! robble! and it would be dope.

damnit, now I really want Colin to write a song about the hamburglar.

anyway, this song is really great. I know I've said it a few times (don't care), but I love how the guitar was recorded/mic'd. It sounds so good, as does Ed.

I want to believe it's got something to do with Cornell, but really all that matters is it's a great song. It could be about a dozen different relationships/friendships Ed had, and it won't change my love for it.

It's no Thumbing My Way or Around the Bend. I don't find it very memorable.

I kind of feel like Buckle Up, Comes Then Goes and Retrograde are very similar to what you'd find on a Vedder solo album (even if he didn't write them all).

This is lower middle of the pack.

It’s clearly written to sound like a Cornell song.

And oh boy Ed doesn’t pull any punches about chris’ wife or mother in law.
He’s not even pretending to hold back in here.

They deserve it but it’s kind of a little to personal or real or something.

I’m not in love with the music but it’s alright I guess

Im such a fan of this one. I was worried about it too, but damn, the music is beautiful. Ed´s vocals are so good...He is restrained but also let loose on the chorus.

And the lyrics..fuck, they are good. There are some fucking good lines here.

I hope this clicks with you dime. You are really missing out. This one hits me the way Ed used to back in 1994.

I really like this song, but I think I would like it more (listen more often) if it were a bit shorter. 6 minutes is a long time for this type of song. But the lyrics & guitar work are great, for sure.

the guitar sounds amazing...incredible to think an acoustic guitar like in Swallow Whole can sound so fucking awful.

"Incisions made by scalpel, blades of time." Absolutely Devastating.

This is the 1994 lyrical talent of EV shining through, but written through the lens of words only a person grown into middle age can write.

It's a complicated song. There's sadness, but there's also anger, resignation, and regret.
