So this song reminds me of both Unthought Known and Swallowed Whole; two songs that underwhelm me.

This is so much better than those like songs. This is the best of those and then some. Like those earlier tracks were sort of dry runs.

Do you mean thematically or musically? Musically Unthought Known feels like the direct precursor to Lightning Bolt (the song).

Yeah, this one grew more on me. The melody is cool...feels like this one would have been a favorite if it appeared on LB, but here it loses against the other songs.

It would have been completely BOB'd. We would lose that outtro.

I'd take about half the songs on Lightning Bolt over this song. There, I said it!

the amount of lyrical callbacks to "Swallowed Whole" in this thing is staggering

I guess I'm part of the small club that really loves this track. I mean, it starts out good and then just keeps getting better until the outro/coda that's just fucking amazing. The soundcape is brilliant, the drums are fucking sublime. Matt really let's loose for once. I mean, just stop I can only get so erect.

And for the record, I'm not a fan of Swallowed Whole. Weird, I guess.

I guess I'm one of the few who likes the main body of this song more than the outro. Not that I don't like the last part, but I prefer the main part of the song. Keeps growing on me.

This is one of the songs on the record I'm most fond of, which I certainly didn't expect.

I agree too (and have said earlier) that the body of the song is doing the heavy lifting here; the fluffy outro is fine but not the main attraction.

This is what "Sirens" eventually became for me, so maybe I have a future with this song after all. There are little things about it I like but the whole thing just feels kind of awkward and leaden to me, with too many of the edges sanded over.

I like it more than "River Cross," though, which remains the only song on this album I just can't get into at all.

They may have a similar structure but that's not what I'm comparing.
