Such a pussy little snowflake.
for a moment i forgot Australia was a desolate island of undomesticated criminal descendants but then you just reminded me
What you will never grasp is that we understand and are proud of this. It's who we are.

Sorry for triggering your inferiority issues. I'll try and be more considerate of your delicate constitution in future.
Thanks. And congrats on putting out those forest fires! It must have been tough putting your thinking caps on to find a solution for that brain-scrambler. But in the end, you managed to claw your way up the cognitive ladder to the level of homo erectus and had a breakthrough: water put out fire. Amazing. Proud. Of. You. It took almost a year, but you did it. See - you showed everyone - and who knows what's next now?!? Maybe learning to walk on your hind legs, all the time?! Sky's the limit.
I guess I'm too dumb to even know what you're talking about here? I mean my cousins family lost their complete home and 2 dogs they couldn't find in the fires in January last year, so I'm pretty well versed in what went down then. No idea on fires burning for the past 12 months though. Nice "burn" though, I'm sure.

Not certain why you have such a problem with me though numbers. I was making comment about the US corona stimulus in the corona stimulus thread. Sorry?

Numbers is a thing, dunno what they are ever on about..

Do I have it wrong that Nothern Straya was the prison colony and South Straya was proper civilized?

Pretty sure convicts were everywhere, certainly they built all the initial infrastructure which was almost all "down south".

Northern Australia was largely unexplored (by whites) to my understanding for some time. Inhospitable country and big weather and big heat.

Nahh, they were pretty widely dispersed.

NSW, of course. But then Tasmania, down south, was one of the main ones. (South) Western Australia was also. And then I think there were even a couple penal colonies in Queensland.

When I lived in the US it was always a bit surprising how many Americans would use convict jokes as some kind 'hur, hur' burn, without realising America was used as a penal colony by the Brits first.

Like... losing the US colonies is literally the reason they chose to settle Australia with convicts.

Not everywhere...
South Australia was an experimental British colony and the only Australian colony which did not officially take convicts.

But naturally some former convicts made their way to South Australia. Men who had completed their sentences came to settle here, usually hiding their convict past if possible. This ranged from prosperous shipping agents such as Emanuel Solomon, down to farmers in the Adelaide hills and around the south coast.

Criminals convicted of major crimes in South Australia were sent as convicts to the eastern colonies until 1851.

*ahem*

Not everywhere.

The South Australia Act 1834 created the Province of South Australia ... with no convict settlers
I guess I used the wrong nomenclature? Sorry Higgs.

I just learned of this from sea shanties.

Birds in Hell is a solid chap, entry 253 or so.

The first colonies were backed by investment companies. Then, followed by additional colonies of puritans and other religious minorities. What penal colonies do you refer to? There were many indentured servants who paid off their transit through a term of service, but I don't think that indicates they were necessarily prisoners in England or elsewhere.

Dime's hatred of the Brits is only rivalled by Numbers's hatred of the Aussies.

North Staya is an important buffer zone to keep out first the Japanese and more recently the Indonesians. You probably should have left more prisoners there to bog down any potential invasion.

No need to apologise to me.

And today I learned something about my own country's past - cheers spenno. That makes perfect sense about no convicts in SA too. You guys all talk the propuh queens english you do. It's the purity of your stock! My aunty is a crow eater and I rag her incessantly about her pronunciation.

I used the term "South Australia" as if your continent was split evenly in two, when thats clearly not the case. "North Australia" is not an accurate term to convey everything that is not "South Australia". "Not South Australia" would've been more accurate
