Deerhoof are back again with their new album, Actually, You Can, out October 18 on Joyful Noise. At this point, if you know much of anything about Deerhoof, then you probably know what to expect here. I hope they can keep up the momentum from their last album that brought me back into the fold. Here's the first single, "Department of Corrections":

I can't get past the intentionally fuzzy production. Its kind of bassy and hits me in the gut. I've just had an iced coffee and got half way through the song above and had to head off for a shit - surely that's not a good effect for a song to have on you...

You're cool psycho - just my take on the few songs I've heard on this release is all.
I'm actually quite the Low fan generally, I really enjoy their catalogue. You've actually saved me a fair few trips to the bog by highlighting these tunes early is all, otherwise for sure I would have grabbed this album. Imagine the devastation if I'd decided to take the album for a long country drive for a first listen??
If anything, I owe you, man.

i like the second single way better than the first. i like that moment you mentioned around the 2:00 mark where the song just gets DENSE. and the vocals are way behind the wall of sound. feels like you're trying to make your way through some bitmapped hurricane.

Charles Spearin (Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene, and KC Accidental) is putting out a new solo album, his second, titled My City of Starlings. It's a collection of fairly cheerful, mostly instrumental pop, though there's a few songs in the latter half that feature vocals. Official release date is August 13, though the full thing is available if one purchases it on Bandcamp:
