i think this one sounds like a textbook eddie composition.

especially with the undoney-ness of the verse riff and the inclusion of the e-bow.

If anyone can bring themselves to do it...listen at about the 140 something mark and then listen to the last 10 seconds of white lion : wait...is it just me or is there something similar? Lol I really love this song.

Last night I dreamed that they played the song again-- same music, but with Ed singing the chorus to "You're Still the One I Love" by Shania Twain in place of the verses.

I need to stop browsing RM before going to bed.

I really like the music around and melody of the 'you gotta know that you're never gonna let her go' bit. Shoulda done the verses like that too. Not that i'm entirely sure that that would have worked.

This whole song has an energy they have been lacking in my opinion since riot act and maybe even before...back the yield days.... :heartbeat:

I hope so, but I'm not ready to make those kinds of pronouncements.

I may have already asked this, but the most awkward thing for me in the chorus is not the lyric LIGHTNING BOOWOWWWLT but the fact that Ed begins singing it half a beat (I think) before the end of the bar, but the band doesn't follow. i.e. there should be a push chopping the last beat of the bar off each time. It seems as if 1) Ed knows this, and the band is just playing it straight 4/4 so it sounds bad, or 2) the band know full well they haven't rehearsed this push well enough yet, but they will have later in the tour, and the push will be present on the studio version, or 3) Ed will always sing LIGHTNING BOOWOWWLT before the end of each bar of that chorus, even on the record, and it'll just be off.

For those of us who understand my question, which is it, do we think?

I really think there will be some kind of vocal layering based on how awkward the second lightning bolt is squeezed in there.

The chorus might suck, but there are parts of that song that remind me of 1996-2002 PJ. If they do this one right in the studio it has a chance to be pretty good. At the very least this one seems to have the most potential of the three.

Something to make those transitions blend together better might be interesting. Maybe even something like the call and response on MYM. But hey, let's not get our hopes up.

Yeah I'm at work and can't listen so I can help with the timing discussion.
I don't recall thinking the first LB was out of place.

Yeah, I can see where people are coming up with the Yield comparisons on this track but it all depends on which Brendan showed up in the studio that day. Hopefully it has some warmth and interesting sounds/tones/vocal layering during the chorus.

I think it's number 3...They meant for it to sound this way even though it sounds "off"

I think there are three, so the first one doesn't come early, but the other two do. It's just a bit weird that Ed begins singing them a beat behind the change to the next bar. It feels as if the band should change early with him. I probably explain these things in an overly complicated way, sorry about that.

It doesn't make sense to me, but here's where I think they often 'thin out' what they do in the studio live, so that it doesn't sound a patch on the original. Cutting corners. We'll see.

I think there were missteps throughout. I feel the "over grown weeds" lines were repeated by mistake, Ed doesn't seem comfortable with what he is playing while singing during the chorus and he makes it seem like mike missed something towards the end.

All speculative of course .

The chorus did sound off to me so, and that is why it is my least favorite part of the song, so i hope something about the studio version makes it better
