The thing I like about MFS and MYM is that they both are half-screamed, half sung. Ed actually does have a melody in MFS, it's just delivered with half-screams and yells as well. Which is all very clever in my opinion. You can make out a melody. And especially in the chorus.

This whole album is very strange to me. I expected to hate Future Days, and was hoping for some off-centre songs, but I actually enjoy Future Days and hate My Father's Son. Go figure.
i was gonna say, i dont think they are jarbled, just delivered weird. its like he's rapping.
To my ears, it's delivered in rhythmic stabs or barks, kind of in the same way as DTE (but with less gruff bellowing).

i probably just equate the rhythmic stabs to rap. i think it differs from DTE in that its more wordy, so DTE has that rhythmic thing along w/ a stand out melody. i dont think the vocal melody in this song stands out, but maybe thats b/c i like the cadence of the words so much.

DTE has a melody? Where?

Oh, the DTE bridge has a melody.... yeah.
But the song is longer, there's no time for that here.

This track has such a sinister vibe to it and has barely any guitar. I fucking love that.

Stylistically, I can hear "Green Disease" and "Insignificance" in this.
Also, it could've sounded like RVM if it had been recorded for Vs. It just lacks that drawn-out climactic ending.

I blasted this song in the car today. An absolute top tier Pearl Jam rock song. On the level of some of their best, I would put it on a playlist with Greivance, Last exit , DTE, Go. It's really great and I'm really happy they were able to make a rocking dark aggressive song again . I'd been waiting awhile for one.
Wish it had a solo, but it's great nonetheless.

it cleverly avoided one, thankfully.

Yeah, the reason why I compared it to those two Riot Act songs is that they too are more restrained than they would be if they'd appeared in early PJ records. They avoid huge climaxes and bombastic solos. I like this for that reason.

Yeah I'm just a sucker for solos , and also wish the song was longer. But I can see how the lack of solo keeps the song more focused and raw.

This song really reminds me of a South African band called The Springbok Nude Girls in the verse. They were one of my favourite bands growing up, so that's beginning to endear me to it.

This is basically got some with balls. So it rocks, other than the ripping off of dusty by SG.

I wouldn't exactly call it a rip-off.

I can't see the similarity, except for maybe the tempo.
