I also think Harmless very astutely pinpointed the one thing about this song that I haven't been able to articulate yet, something which gets under my skin far more than its reported Twain-ness--it's Muse-ness.
I can hear it now that this has been mentioned.

Don't worry Spenno. It's much dirtier.

Egad - if I wasn't already apprehensive about this song, I certainly am now.
I don't like Muse much either tbf, but I do like their willingness to play around with swing-style rock, even if I hate the results. PJ always did songs which I wouldn't have liked if they'd been performed by another band.

But, Spenno, did you get my first comparison to Marc Bolan and T. Rex? That was the first thing I thought on first listen.

Ah right, OK. I'm just saying that it's not only comparable to terrible artists...

there are some pretty basic sounds and tricks in music that many people use. The key is to make sure you use them well.

A friend of mine is going to see them this tour and asked me to describe the songs I heard.

Me: Let the Records Play--picture ZZ Top plus Shania Twain plus Muse

My friend: I literally have no idea how to do that.

Really nice one, love the riff at the begginning and the bridge. The chorus doesnt bother me, i really enjoy it actually.

That weird bridge in major is what is pulling this one out of the fire for me.

This song at the very least successfully emotes a swamp bar envangelist kind of southern rock feel. I'm liking it more.
