My wife is making custard pie, the king of all pies. So psyched. She's also making some other pies but who cares when there's custard pie

The immediate Wease family is staying home and doing our own thing tomorrow. We’ll be having roasted chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, mac ‘n’ cheese and rolls. And damned if LV hasn’t inspired me to try to make a custard pie. We’ll see if it happens.

I’m doing it! Making the custard pie tonight for tomorrow. This is very exciting. I don’t normally do any desserts.

Well shit. Disaster out of the gate. I baked the crust as the instructions indicated and when I took it out it shrank. So I could only get about half the custard filling in the actual pie. I’m cooking the rest off in individual cups like flan or crème brûlée.

Vanilla, I guess. That’s the only flavoring I added. Well, I sprinkled nutmeg over the top.

You put foil on the crust and weigh it down (pie weights, beans, hell even pennies will work) and bake it for like 15 minutes. Pull it out and let it cool before adding the filling. That way the crust doesn’t shrink.
