Draw a line, kid, and say, "No." Maybe one day you'll grow up and realize that. Draw a line. Stand for something. If you can't even make a sensible choice about attending concerts, then God help you. I pity you.
You're so adorable. I just want to pat you on the head, give you a Werther's Original, and tell you everything's gonna be alright.
You're so cute when you try to form opinions. How was school today, son? Did the mean kids pelt you with rocks again? Did you cry? You have to learn to stand up for yourself, son. Stand your ground and say "NO, I will not stand for this. Maybe you're too young for that. It'll come to you. Maybe when you're older. Just remember daddy loves you.
Awwww look at little Wishlist. You're a good little boy, aren'tcha? Who's my cute little boy?! Who's daddy's little boy?! C'mere sport give your daddy a hug!

Wishlist, tell us about the time The Huffington Post named you one of the top five British Poets to watch in 2013, and how you were nominated for poet laureate of your town.

As usual, KevinDavis is more sensible than anyone else posting in a given thread, but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't kinda get where Wishlist is coming from, at least in terms of his feelings towards arena shows (By the way, when did the thread change to that topic anyway? Weren't we originally talking about not listening to Avocado?)
I don't really listen to arena-ready music anyway, but I would have a very hard time convincing myself to attend an arena show. For one thing, it's cost-prohibitive. When PJ played Buffalo in 2010, I considered going until I looked at ticket prices and the lowest were about $75. Last year they were even more expensive and I'm making less money than I was in 2010. I'm also adverse to arena shows, because I generally don't hear positive things about the sound quality, which is a strike because one of the main reasons to see a concert is to hear the music. Now, admittedly I can't vouch much for this aspect, but the biggest show I've been to is going with my brother to see Flogging Molly at Buffalo's Canalside where attendance topped 10,000 people. You've gotta be loud to reach that many people, and more so because it's outside, but it was ridiculous. I know live mixes are tricky, but there was virtually no distinction between instruments; it was all waves of loud, flat sound. Couple that with not being a fan of the music, and it wasn't a great experience. I'd probably enjoy it more if it were PJ or Radiohead or Sigur Ros or Arcade Fire or anything else that I'm actually interested in, but I digress.
There are enough downsides to arena-style shows to keep me from being interested in attending. As for bands peaking in a live setting early in their career, sure some do, but a lot don't. They may not be playing in the most appropriate venues, but that has little effect on how good they actually are.

All your criticisms of modern Pearl Jam shows are spot on, but those things became true long after they started doing arena shows.

I'm torn between my desire to troll on the internets and my complete lack of interest in this stupid topic.

I wish everyone in this thread would realize that pearl jam's two best tours were 1994 and 2005. So everyone wins!
I also feel this really strong desire to defend S/T, but I don't have the attention span for a long post righ tnow
