Do Make Say Think

I listened to the s/t again yesterday and was thinking that maybe it should move up a spot. "History in Rust" is still pretty good, but I think it has the highest proportion of weak tracks in their catalog.

WHCHSH is SOOO good. It used to be much lower on my mental list, but I almost put it as no. 1. It is practically a toss-up. I think for History...I've really been liking the guitar tones. They did a really good job w the recording. They always do...but, really quality on that record.

I love post-rock and I've tried a couple of times to get into Do Make Say Think, but I'm just not a fan. I think they are just a tad too "light" for me. It's the same with most of Hammock's and Balmorhea's stuff. I do appreciate it as beautiful, but I really need my soul to be crushed.

Balmorhea is touch and go. I saw them a few years back and the show was amazing. They killed it. I immediately bought 2 LPs after the show, listened to them once or twice and haven't touched them since. Hammock is nice, but yeah doesn't really do it for me either.

I'd say give Do Make another go...but, since you are well versed in the epic ways of post-rock...you know what's what.

You people putting "Final Cut" at the bottom are nuts -- that's arguably Rog's finest hour as a songwriter:

Wow. Kinda surprised you have the Wall and Pipers so low. Tough list to make though for sure.

I may be the only SG fan who feels that way, but to me: late-period SG > early SG > mid-period SG. I became a fan during the Superunknown era and most of my favorite SG songs are on the last two records before they broke up, or their early material.

The thing about Badmotorfinger to me: I love half the songs but I'm ambivalent about at least 3 or 4 others, I hate the production and that line in "Holy Water" about being raped by a monkey circus freak really annoys me.

Totally agree KD, I love The Final Cut. I think Roger is one of the greatest writers of all time and The Final Cut is awesome.

I think some of Roger's best stuff came after his PF years when he released "Amused To Death". That is a fucking masterpiece. One of the many Roger has written.

You're not, Matt -- I actually would rank "Badmotorfinger" even lower than you, with only "King Animal" below it (this with the caveat that I haven't heard the "Screaming Life" EP).

There must be something about growing up in Central Illinois that makes that album difficult to relate to. Perhaps the line about the monkey circus freaks just hits a little too close to home.
