I haven't listened to it in a while. Mescalito is amazing and a few other songs were decent but it is another one I mostly pass on.

The two soulsavers and first Campbell record are the only side projects I love start to finish
Does qotsa count?

I don't think the anthology ever actually "leaked" early. The mp3 album has been available since 16 Dec on Amazon, but I'm holding out for the physical release. I gave in and listened to the samples of the new stuff--sounds very promising.

isn't he basically just singing on like 1-2 songs on each album?

I like untitled lullaby quite a bit.

So I got my CD in the mail today, vinyl will come next week. The unreleased gems are great. To Valencia Courthouse and A Song While Waiting are beauties. And for the life of me I can't believe it's taken this long for the vocal version of Blues For D to see the light of day. Great stuff, guys--def something to look forward to if you haven't heard them yet. Man, Valencia is fucking gorgeous. Leaving New River Blues is bad ass. Still soaking in the others. If you're a fan of Field Songs, I think you'll really dig a bulk of the unreleased stuff.

Good lord, this vinyl set is a beautiful package. it's not like he ever stood out with album art design but imitations and Black Pudding were very weak.

I just got this today and listened to the unreleased comp on the way to work. Some nice stuff there, but nothing groundbreaking. these songs are pretty uniformly not up to the standards set by the records. Not sure you're gonna find any Sad's in there. that was just one listen though.

between that, the lack of any real retrospective narrative or commentary from mark made it a bit disappointing. I'm also not a big fan of the song selection on the studio side, but there aren't bad songs there. Just not the ones I would have picked.

Still, if I was gonna make someone a fan I'd probably just make a mix.

definite improvement on the new tracks upon my second listen. probably some keepers, even if there are no standouts

The string of Leaving New River Blues through Blues for D (vocal version) is pretty strong IMO. I can't get enough of To Valencia Courthouse, could grow to be one of my favs. Halcyon Daze has also grown on me. They did a hell of a job mastering the old tunes, too.

Still waiting for this.

In the meantime, Death Rides a White Horse.
