These things usually come down to the last minute, as they did with DT last year.

This post caused me to double check if they struck a deal with Eric Berry, and Twitter tells me no. You and I will be entering tension territory through Friday as we await franchise tag negotiations.
I don't expect much movement on our respective franchise tags. Best of luck you, though. I'd love to be wrong about Von Miller. I want to like that guy.
Sounds like younger me regarding Derrick Thomas!
I don't know why Berry and the Chiefs haven't agreed yet. The Harrison Smith deal gave them a great launching pad to compromise. With Von, what he has to realize that is that he's going to get less money overall if he doesn't agree to a deal now. Both of them should be extended,
but sometimes pride fucks with your mind.

I 100% agree.
No reason why Berry and Miller shouldn't be long term faces of their respective franchises. With Berry... I have no idea what's going on. The only thing I can think is that the Cheaps are so cash strapped this season that they're trusting on good faith that Berry will be open to negotiations next season? But if I were Hunt, I'd lock that guy down for the long haul.

He doesn't win really. This is him excercising authority that he legally has, but it's a pissing contest. Brady badly misread his position. He and several other QBs do mess with thr balls to get better grip, it's hardly "cheating" but in truth the problem here was mostly on the league side and with the officials. The league continues to make life hard on them with the dumb catch rule. How come Baseball can figure out the ball issue and the league can't? It's easy. Teams buy balls, the league gets them ready to play... Simple.
Goodell ends up looking like most rich entitled corporate pricks do when challenged. He went overboard. He blew it with Ray Rice and other abuse issues, they've botched drug policy, bountygate was clumsy and now New England hates him.
But he'll still bring in 60M for himself and the owners don't have to explain themselves much in public even though quite a few of them have behaved deplorably lately.
Players are getting better enmasse at this, he will lose power in the next round to a board of review, and the Franchise tag will be revised.
Unfortunately, everyone in this tiny issue was way too freaking proud to just man up, explain themselves, get a small fine and move on.
Goodell loses, because he has firmly wedged himself completely against the players, there will be a contentious labor stoppage next time.
The Pats will end up pissed off and driven and the public hates the guy. He's wealthy, but he can't go out in public anymore.
Meanwhile, a bunch of lawyers got rich over nonsense again. This should have taken 36 hours.

This is the most important part of your post. I hope all of you are prepared for no NFL in 2021, it's going to get nasty.

After 3 straights years of Garoppolo winning the Super Bowl MVP it's going to get boring, so I don't really mind.

no it's not...as soon as the players realize game checks will be going bye bye, they'll cave as they always have

Im not sure about that, but you could be right. Given the reaction to the NBA contracts there may be some additional resolve.

NFL careers are short as is, no player wants to make them even shorter by sitting out
maybe I'll be proven wrong, but the last labor unrest pretty much played out like this to a T

Isn't he supposed to be a Packers fan? They don't have any reason to get involved in the PIT/CLE rivalry.
