Ok, I've added some names to my list for the most likely candidates for induction speech:
01- Chris Cornell
02- Neil Young
03- Pete Townshend
04- Michael Stipe
05- Carrie Brownstein
06- Ben Harper
07- Glen Hansard
08- Jack White
09- Julian Casablancas
10- Annie Clark (St Vincent)
Added 8,9,10 since they have spoken very positively about the band. My vote would still go to Carrie

I'm sure that Cameron Crowe or Judd Apatow can give an excellent speech, but prefer to hear other musicians.

I just want someone who understands them to do it (assuming they make it). Not someone for whom the band was a passing fancy, or only understood one era, or is a fan maybe cause the band might be getting trendy again. Another bonus for me would be a younger artist who was influenced by PJ but is doing their own unique thing. Julian Casablancas was my pick cause of that, but the problem is, I've never seen him speak coherently in my life. He's def a frontman and sorta like Ed in that manner. He's kinda a mysterious, mumbly, goofy, but cool dude so it'd be a total crapshoot. Annie Clark would be good (eloquent, talented, beautiful) but I don't think she was a fan of the middle years, same with Jim James, which is important to fans like us. Honestly, the more I think about, BRIAN FALLON would do it the best. He gets it, and he's a deep and articulate dude.

Given her eclectic tastes, knowledge of music, and her staggering breadth of influence, I'd be surprised if Annie doesn't love Pearl Jam's middle period. I think she talks about Ten as much as she does because it was so influential to her at such an influential time (which is true of most of us as well). I think someone like Chris Cornell makes the most sense to induct them. He knows them, was around, playing with them, influencing them, the entire time. He's good in PJ20. I think he has the heart and the words for it. My hope is that they come up with a more creative choice, but I think he's obvious and makes the most sense.

Yeah, I do agree on Cornell. I mean, weed out the obvious influences like Pete Townshend and Neil Young and all, Cornell might actually be the single most influential factor on the existence of PJ. Plus, he's a sincere fan literally upon their formation and through all of the lean years too. I consider him almost a de facto band member and their literally would be no one who knows them more intimately. At the same time,. I'd be kinda stewing in anger that he isn't being honored himself. The dude is probably the single most important figure in the entire Seattle scene. I have geeked out and crushed quite a bit on Annie, but I don't sense she was into them in the lean middle years. She was going off on some pretty eclectic stuff by then w/ Byrne and Bowie and whatnot and I think she came back to them during this late era. Half the reason I love this band is that they grinded through those wilderness years, and I have doubts on how much she gets that period. BUT, to your point, just her very presence put the band itself into a different context. She's influenced by them, but she is something else entirely (as is Julian) and it's a total compliment to the band that someone of her level views the band the way she does. Nonetheless I'd be thrilled to see her do it, she's awesome and she's the future. Plus, can you imagine her doing a guitar solo with them?

She did play RITFW with them in Dallas in 2013. Or was it OKC? I can't remember which.
