Gonna See My Friend is also good but i dont like the bridge, and the stops are annoying.

Yeah, that pretty much nails it.
I can easily go back to the Vs for the songs I love, or No Code/Yield which I never get tired of, but Riot Act feels like a slog, so it falls to the bottom of the list.

I highly recommend MYM to anyone who listens to music while at the gym. Really makes about 3 minutes fly by on the machines and gives ya a nice stir of energy (all natural and safe).

There's certainly nothing on Backspacer with the same bite as MYM, so it wins in that weight class. If I had to be objective it could be argued that Unthought, or The End or Just Breathe are more widely received as better songs (speaking as someone with a girlfriend who considers those some of her favorite PJ songs)

I agree if the overall album quality (song-for-song) is on par then I'm happy.
if you could somehow delete the piano from Unthought it would tie with Faithful
Tie with Faithful? Not sure, but it would certainly be much better with something on the guitar rather than that horrendous piano. In fact, on the demo version I was kind of imagining that 'Nothing left' section becoming louder and more aggressive. No such luck.

Lounge Lizard wrote:ATW is a very good song but theres something wrong with the rythm part during the verses. Its weak. The rest is top notch though.
I think the only thing it's lacking is a riff. But everything else is fine and I've never got why it's so hated around here.

Don't know about anyone else, but the lyrics & delivery keep this song down for me too.

" Let's go swim tonight, darling"
"Riding high amongst the waves I can feel like I Have a soul that has been saved"

I'm usually not a huge lyrics critic, but there's just a corniness to this song that bugs me.

Give it a solid riff and it ties w/ GTF.
GTF doesnt have a solo. I love the solo in ATW. And the rich, strong background from Jeff and Stone durting the solo. Earboner.

When I'm surfing, I (as an atheist) "can feel like I have a soul that has been saved"? What's that other than a "I'm not religious but this makes me feel alive" statement? The people thinking this was Christian rock are not listening. It's the same statement MYM is making, just not angry or accusatory.

i think that 'I can see the light coming through the clouds in rays' is a beautiful line. Its like a painting with words instead of colors.

In fact, if people are down on religious imagery, why do they like GTF so much? (Incidentally, I don't think ATW sounds like GTF at all except lyrically -- as I said in the Dissident thread, it sounds more like Dissident.)

It's a really evocative line, yup.

Not sure I agree about MYM. But the rest of this post is spot on. And that's why I really respond to it. It's akin to this Tom Petty sentiment:

"How about a cheer for all those bad girls
And all those boys that play that rock and roll
They love it like you love Jesus
It does the same thing to their souls"
