I think what we are all hearing is Ed sitting comfortably in his voice and not pushing it to places it can't go anymore, much like throughout Riot Act.
Listened to the BEacon show last night and i gotta say he sounds pretty goddamn great all things considered. These songs are well suited for his current voice.

also the vocal and gunshot fill coming out of the "bridge" absolutely fucks, and Ed's playing around the melody between 3.32-3.50 is one of my favourite vocal moments on the record; it's euphoric!

There’s something kind of funny to me about the fact that he spent the entire mid 90s running away from commercial success, and in 2022 he put out a record that sounds like a mix tape of 1996 rock radio hits.

There’s something kind of funny to me about the fact that he spent the entire mid 90s running away from commercial success, and in 2022 he put out a record that sounds like a mix tape of 1996 rock radio hits.

I imagine that Mrs. Mills probably isn't high on most people's lists, but man every time I hear it I love it more and more. I thought I'd listen to this record once or twice but I'm pleasantly surprised that it keeps pulling me back in.

i think Mills is criminally underrated here. Its an exercise in songwriting and he's running circles around everything else here. its perfectly mapped out, great story, great lyrics, the melody is incredible, and the way the song crescendos is just absolute perfection.
im in love with it.

His voice is so great on it as well. he just sits in the pocket letting his voice carry along while the band and production builds behind him.

All of this. It's nothing like what I would have expected from him but he absolutely nails it for me. There's a handful of songs on here I already like, but this is the one that every time it finishes I feel like I need to hear it again.

I've seen a few here rate it highly
so, is it literally about a piano? the piano the original Mrs. Mills originally played, presumably? the lyrics are really solid
