Killers is #1. Argo has spoken.
Pack it up, we're done here.

That placement of Past Lives is rotten. It's such a fluid and graceful piece of filmmaking, full of artful little details. I was super impressed with it, and how vivid and effortless its storytelling is

Obviously coming at it from completely different directions aesthetically, thematically and narratively, but the reasons I loved Past Lives are very similar to the reasons I loved Killers of the Flower Moon

The most annoying part of Past Lives isn't even the story about which insecure, annoying simp she will choose to love--it's the transitions between every scene which are just like shots of stuff in the room with the most boring movie-score-music playing over it. just a waste of time!

I know, I know, the movie isn't even about the simps. It's about her. The simps are just underwritten objects the movie uses to advance our main character's journey

1. That's not even close to what the story's about
2. Objects in rooms, evidence of life in living spaces, is indeed a recurring motif; I wonder why they did that? It was probably an accident!
3. The score is one of the highlights
Sit down and think about how in your haste to dismiss this movie you ended up sounding like Bammer writing about international cuisine

It wasn't painterly enough for Argo. These things happen.

Bradley Cooper’s Maestro is going home empty-handed. Despite being nominated for seven Oscars, and heavily favored to win one for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Maestro fell victim to Poor Things, which had a ton of support in the below-the-line crafts categories.
