I'm feeling like this makes it worse in my mind. Not because the cops could have been much different in what we can see of the 2nd video, but because wrestling with a drunk person is futile. The moment he begins to resist they should be working to calm him down, not over power him.

And stop shooting people running away.

Life needs to be valued more.

The second video shows the actual event (minus the shooting) GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING.

He was passed out after drunk driving, they calmly tried to arrest him, he fought them, he stole one of the tasers, they tasered him (it didnt work), he pointed a taser at them, they shot him. The Twittersphere "sleeping in a car shouldnt be a death sentence" is completely misleading over what happened. That news networks would lead with that claim shows a dangerous bias in favor of instigating more riots to drive viewership.

They had his keys, ID, wallet and car. If he wants to run away let him. He'd have to come to them on his own at some point.

You can't steal a cops weapon and try to shoot them with it and expect to get a hug. But then again this is a guy who decided getting a double stack with cheese wasted was more important than the safety of anyone he might encounter and then didn't even have the awareness to see through that plan (passed out in drive through).

And he had just passed out. How far was he going to go?

Rayshard Brooks's lawyers made a good point. If the police using it during the struggle is considered nonlethal, then him having it and blindly shooting it at them should be considered nonlethal.

That you guys are even arguing this to me shows the extent of the greater problem and how ingrained it is.

No one should be shot dead in this situation. Guys an idiot for fighting but the bigger problem is that your police are constantly put into positions where they feel justified in shooting people. What. The. Fuck.

In case it wasn't clear on the last page, my foolproof plan to ensure that no unarmed civilian will ever be able to take a weapon away from a cop is to not give cops deadly weapons in the first place. Having a gun makes every interaction a life or death situation

It's just not a great example for the cause is my whole point. Wait a few days until the next one. It will probably be better.

This is a GREAT plan. Nobody will just beat the hell out of cops ever. And we don't really need cops anyway do we? It's not like anything bad ever happens in life like getting assaulted in the streets.

Yeah, the cops really helped me out on that one when I walked myself to the emergency room.

People are asking that the people who respond to emergencies be expert at de-escalation. Why might Rayshard Brooks have struggled with and run from the police? Their mere presence escalated the situation, because he knows from personal or community experience to be afraid of the police and the criminal legal system. The community has lost faith in the police. So the police are incapable of doing their job without endangering people

Cut off all civilians' arms

Seriously though. There is currently no chance for meaningful gun control in this country. There are more guns than people. Way more. So since it's too hard to get guns out of the hands of people that will drive drunk and attack cops when confronted, just take weapons away from cops? We can expect utopia in that situation? We live in the real world. We need solutions that work within our reality.
