They’re both great, but fairly different in execution. The first one is an incredibly tense, smart film.
Blunt does the best work to date, and there’s a…structural thing…that happens…that is very unconventional for a mass marketed movie that is so great.

The second one is right down the middle in terms of its mechanics: nothing particularly challenging or novel in the way the story is told. But it’s a great, dark continuation of the first story and I’m glad it exists.

But outside this little island full of arty pantsy people the movie bombed big time. Chazzelle could be finished. The marketing of this movie was hilariously bad.
