i agree. The moderate dems will hold their nose and vote for Bernie, but it seems like there's a fair portion of Bernie bros who won't vote for a moderate dem.

Unless we're all just being duped by Russia again. Who knows.
I suspect that far more people will claim they won’t/didn’t vote than will actually stay home, if it’s just a matter of “my candidate didn’t win so my feelings are hurt.”

But I also think that using organizational power structures to suppress a candidate with a distinct lead in favor of one who is more in line with the leadership class will be catastrophically destructive...especially among the under 35 crowd, who represented 4 million new voters in 2018, a 79% increase that made it the first time in over a century that voters under the age of 53 cast more votes than voters 54 on up.

Maybe if one of the electible candidates could win an election ...
This sentence makes zero sense
Pete and Biden are supposed to be more electable, but they keep losing primaries to Bernie, the unelectable.

Your thinking Democratic voters would stay home before voting Bernie? They'd rather 4 more years of Trump?

If that's true, we'll be a Republican nation for many decades to come.

No, a lot of Bernie voters would stay home if someone else was nominated with fewer votes.

They'd be fools to vote for whoever the democratic elite allowed them to vote for.

I definitely think there will be a cost in turnout among moderates, yes. There’s always some of that (there were Hillary fans who stayed home on Obama), and frankly the people in my family who tend to vote democrat are low information midwestern moderates who would definitely stay home on Sanders. But I also think you’ll lose a lot fewer votes to low turnout among moderates on Sanders then you would progressive votes if you cucked Sanders when he had a clear lead.

Also, I think the most likely culprit for that turnout drop would be a candidate propped up by moderate donors and never trumpers panicked about socialism.

My second sentence still applies.

If the issue here is that older people who might otherwise vote for a Democrat won't vote for Bernie (a real possibility for sure), then they need to be subjected to the same lectures young people get every day. It's hard to take the calls to "vote for the nominee no matter what" seriously when the older 1/3 of the party and its leadership are openly saying they might not be able to.

Democrats that stay home because their candidate list the primary are possibly stupider than Trump.

I don’t think that’s entirely fair in this case. Bernie is not a Democrat, he is an independent who represents a radical shift away from the principles that have seen the largest increase in human well-being in our history into something... else. A reluctance to support him is not a betrayal of the party or liberalism.
