None of that is true for my childhood, and yet I feel a similar way. G1 has a terrific unique quality, part of making it a serious candidate for the best movie of all time.

I agree with what you're saying. The visceral quality is mostly fantastic in 1 and 2. But the lack of realism in the action/violence scenes takes the immersion down a few pegs for me. If they just went back and redid those scenes so they look real and seemlessly blend with the rest of the movie they'd both be about 10/10 for me probably.

Will finish this today. The first hour was interesting, although I do hope the second hour takes it up a notch. It was a bit docile.
Didn’t end up liking it much. Just too slow and boring.

Will start on The Wolf Of Wall Street. Saw it in the cinema, and possibly one other time. Good movie with some great scenes. A bit long. Anyway, a new opportunity to consider it now.

After this 8 rewatches and 6 I’ve never seen before, left from the 2013 movies.

For me, of all Scorsese's films this one is best recalled by great scenes; the parts are more than the sum.

Watched Tar again, this time on the big screen. Liked it even more, caught a bunch of details that had slipped by me the first time. I wish I could watch every single movie in a theater, there's nothing like the big screen for taking a film in

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm watching Lyle, Lyle Crocodile with my kids. The writing is so bad. I don't understand why anyone does anything, and the song barely have anything to do with what's going on.

need to do this.

finished the menu tonight. one criteria for a failed satire is when the satire is only as smart/stupid as its object. when the kind of irony necessary to create distance from this object aint obtaining. that's the menu.

seems increasingly likely that chazelle suffers from the terminal brain disease that afflicts david o russell. babylon has big amsterdam energy, overstuffed in all the wrong ways and I find it impossibly hard to consider it not being anything other than shit. but then i made it through the menu, so who am i to throw stones
