I don't know what to think about this board anymore
if it's now "hate on", why isn't it "like on" as well?

I don't hate S/T or Backspacer.
Neither do I. They're my least favourite albums, but Big Wave is the only song ruining S/T (along with production and track ordering issues). The only song I hate on Backspacer is Supersonic, and Backspacer is affected by my hatred of that song simply because it's so short.
I have an issue with Gone. Like, I can't listen to it.

I quite like Gone, but I have a thing about Boom's organ

I have that issue with everything backspacer that isn't GSMF, got some, johnny guitar, and the speed of sound demo DEMO.

As For s/t I can leave everything other than Wws, severed hand, big wave unemployable, army reserve and parachutes.

And none of these are songs I go to listen to regularly.

GTF is about being free when everybody wants to pin you down. Its not the new testament that rhimes.
Yup. Is that not what the silhouetted Ed / surf board symbol was about that we got? The one where his arms are outstretched, like on a cross? I don't know, it's a bit like Bono's 'I am Jesus' but much more stylish. He definitely sees surfing as a spiritual, transcendent experience. He's basically rejected GOP-style Christianity and replaced it with surfing.

Overdone and uninterestingly applied is.

I actually think that AtW has some of the better lyrics on Backspacer....in the verses. It's mostly the choruses and the extremity of the retreading that make it suck hard.
i would not go into suck hard territory--I do like the song--but the verses on ATW are some of the highlights on Backspacer The lyrics are good, the melody and delivery are strong, and the hazy guitar and warm misty feel it gives the song are quite well done. I do fall off in the chorus a bit, but the verses are strong enough to keep me on

Yes, definitely. I've often considered the fact that we've totally erased the political and social implications of what Jesus said or did. The whole idea that we can be spiritually and socially effective whilst being politically neutral is silly, but I suppose it gives churches a superficial sense of being 'united' in the 'important things', which is, uh, nice, as far as that goes.

So, Siren...what do we all think? BOB was right when he said '5 minute pop song' but this wasn't the song I was hoping it to be. It's not...epic enough.

The excessive handclaps are the only things preventing it from achieving epic status.
