Because filmmakers are notoriously terrible at judging and defining their own work. Because horror movies have been around for like a century and because one filmmaker decides his horror movie isn't a horror movie it doesn't make it true. The Babadook, It Follows, The Witch - these are all horror movies even though their filmmakers try to claim otherwise. Because all this stupid, deflective rhetoric is a way of denigrating genre and elevating "drama" above all else, as if horror isn't a genre that is already rich with ideas and themes and what have you. Being a "drama about loss" doesn't mean that a movie isn't a horror movie. Horror is capable of being intelligent and thoughtful and profound, and exploring themes like loss. In fact, loss and grief are probably the most prevalent themes in horror. Just because some young guy thinks his precious drama is too good to be a genre movie and decides to boringly eschew basic genre pleasures, it doesn't mean it isn't a horror movie. It just means he's pretentious and ignorant.

Durden loves his pretentious hipster shit. LV loves Michael Bay.

There is no common ground to be had here. They must fight to the death.

So is LV hung up on the fact that "Ghost" is in the title?

Lol. He's so funny and adorable some times.

He hates the director, right? So there's no getting past that with him.

I love horror movies too and ive seen a few hundred. This is obviously not a horror movie.

This doesn't look like a horror - it does however look pretentious as shit

The trailer isn't even trying to be scary at all. Nothing about it seems like it's using anything from the horror genre. It just has the word ghost in the title! That's it! That is not a good enough reason to be this judgmental and weird.

Either way this looks like dogshit. But it'll dupe a lot of people into watching it since it's banking on horror iconography in its marketing.

Oh yeah, this one's totally gonna clean up at the box office. Because of the guy in the fucking sheet. Are you retarded or something?
I didn't say anything about box office, Argo. This is 2017.

No one is saying that horror isn't capable of being intelligent and thoughtful and profound. No one is saying horror can't explore loss. No one is saying that drama is inherently better or more important or pleasurable than horror. No one is saying drama is too good to be a genre movie. It is. Drams IS a genre.

To be honest, your posts here seem far more "pretentious and ignorant" than this trailer. And that's something I never expected from you. You're off the fucking rails friend. I wish I could understand what you're getting at. But this seems completely irrational to me. If a bunch of goddamn idiots think -- HOLY SHIT A SHEET IT MUST BE A HORROR FILM AAAAHHHH -- and they go and see it and are pissed because it isn't a horror film at all, I'm not sure that's the fault of the film maker. That seems like it's the fault of the idiot who didn't manage their expectations based on the clear marketing campaign. Whatever.

I won't pretend to know this director or his intentions. I can only go by the very limited knowledge I have: what I've seen and read about the film so far. Maybe you're totally right and he's sitting at home laughing at all the idiots who like horror and will go to see his movie because they think it's a horror film. Maybe he's sitting all over a precious genre that many love. I don't fucking know. But I've seen nothing so far that hints at that. Anyway... you're a smart dude. I'm probably missing something, as usual.

Either way, I'll see the stupid movie and I hope I'll to enjoy it. That's all I give a shit about. But I'm just some mindless idiot geek sheep. Who cares what I think?
