Interesting. I haven't seen that one yet; I'll probably give it a shot. The other two in my marathon were Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal. I didn't like any of the three, but there's something strangely "off" about the atmosphere of his movies. I can't put my finger on it. That's probably why his sensibility was perfect for the fucked up horror of Jacob's Ladder. I wish he'd made more movies like that instead of all this weird-ass semi-erotica nonsense.

"Gimme the Power", the documentary on the Mexican band Molotov. I enjoyed the framing of the larger context behind the historical relationship between Mexico, rock music and social oppression, and I enjoyed that it pulled no punches when critiquing the band it's supposed to be about, but it fell kinda flat in the conclusion and skipped over a lot of the more interesting moments of their career. A crummy rock doc, but an interesting look at Mexico's cultural history.

Caught the original Godzilla and Ida at the Music Box while I was in Chicago. Godzilla was obviously great to see on the big screen, but holy shit was Ida amazing. I wish it was playing somewhere around here so I could see it at least once more. There's something about black and white movies that doesn't quite translate when they're shrunk down to tv size.

The Institute. Very interesting and strangely moving.

I saw Under The Skin, much different than Sexy Beast. Pretty crazy movie, lagged a little bit at points, but I think it really came together.

Man I hated that movie. The worst of 2014 so far.

Here's the rather disparate group of movies I watched yesterday: Little Nicky, The Wedding Singer, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and Night and Fog.

The music in NAF was an interesting decision.

Watched Breillat's The Sleeping Beauty last night. Really fascinating, even if it's hindered by its low budget.

Mud. Pretty good, but not great. The bad guys were cartoonish to the point of almost turning it into Road House, but the other characters were great.

Bigger Stronger Faster. Surprisingly good doc. I think I'm cool with steroids now.

Saw Maleficent yesterday. Jolie was good but the movie was just ok.

James Franco's "Interior. Leather Bar." Fucking awful.
"To Be Takei". Very funny and eye-opening. I think I've underestimated Takei's significance in pop culture. I had no idea he had been in an internment camp.
Bruce LaBruce's new one "Gerontophilia". Pretty strange movie with some really beautiful scenes but also a lot of stilted storytelling and shitty acting. Also seemed tonally confused. I laughed hard at the credit sequence music: Pulp's "Help the Aged."

Russian Ark is quickly becoming my favorite film of all time. Unspeakably beautiful and moving. Anybody else a fan?
