Yes. But what does that tell us about racism if it's not mostly white cops shooting black people? Could it be that blacks are disproportionately shot because they commit the most crime in the area?

This is like a master class on collapsing important differences to provide rationalization for demonizing the police, unjustly in the specific case. He committed two acts of assault against an officer and stole a weapon from them, he was not just acting like a foolish drunkard. CNN Analyst James A. Gagliano explains it clearly here:

I'm willing to say it's not a murder, but it is a killing by police that they should be trained to avoid.

I'm not trying to demonize cops. We aren't teaching cops to protect life, even criminals, even under the possibility that they may get hurt.

And yes, that also includes paying cops in the way you would pay someone when you're asking them to put their safety at risk.

You're calling a fist fight, what I see as a man trying to run who got tackled and drug to the ground. That man's not attacking anyone. He's trying to get away.

so heres a question then if youre so interested in cherry picking. the man was running away and was a good 10 feet away. also a taser isnt a weapon that is used to kill someone so while the cop may have fallen to the ground his life was not in real danger. now if you say it was then why do cops use a taser? but also why pursue him at all. they have all his information there in his car. there was no need to chase him through a crowded parking lot discharging their weapon let alone shooting to kill.

like B said, they could have gone after him the next day and none of this would be talked about

I'd like to see more cops thinking for any amount of time about why they're at a scene.

"I was called here because a guy used a fake $20. Now I'm strangling him to death."
"I was called here because a guy was selling cigarettes. Now I'm strangling him to death."
"I was sent here to arrest a drug dealer. Now I'm shooting a woman in her bed."
"I was called here because a guy stole some cigars. Now I'm shooting him repeatedly."

These are not things that should be happening. Ever.

It's which 13.4% that matters in terms of police interaction because crime is largely a function of the young. Lots of old whiteys out there.

Blacks are making up most of the crime in the areas they are being disproportionately shot. This is what the data shows.

Also, cooperate with police or you're putting your life in danger. This should be the message. Not the lie that cops are hunting blacks in the streets.

Also, socioeconomics play a role. If you're poor, you're more likely to encounter a cop. Studies show there's no bias who cops choose to kill.

Where's the outrage over Tony Timpa? Imagine if he were black.

He assaulted two officers and stole one of the officer's weapon. Seconds beforehand. How can you not presume this individual poses a risk to others? HE LITERALLY JUST COMMITTED A VIOLENT ASSAULT AND NOW HAD A TASER.

This is from the Altanta PD guidelines on when deadly force can be used:

“1. He or she reasonably believes that the suspect possesses a deadly weapon or any object, device, or instrument which, when used offensively against a person, is likely to or actually does result in serious bodily injury and when he or she reasonably believes that the suspect poses an immediate threat of serious bodily injury to the officer or others.”

I find it extremely difficult to believe that anyone could watch those videos, watch the suspect punch the cops, and not see this event rise to this standard after he fired the weapon at the police.
