Tarkin, the X-Wing/U-Wing Pilots from A New Hope & Leia were a delightful headfuck. Seemed like a prefect blend of look-alike actors & amazing CG??

For me the strength/weakness of this movie was the same thing

In the end these were just not interesting characters (Cassian and Jyn were okay). It stripped the first half of the movie of some of its tension, since I didn't really care what happened to them, and the battle scenes lost some of the tension. But precisely because they were disposable it added tension to the finale because you knew any/all of them could die, and that's unusual in the Star Wars universe. But even then, what was dramatized here really well was the struggle between the rebellion and the empire, and I was rooting for the rebellion to be succesful, more than any of the particular rebels.


I am really looking forward to seeing what happens to Luke in Episode 8 or 9. I figured Han would die in 7, but I really am not sure what they'll do with Luke, so itll be the first time I've ever gotten to watch him and not know what was going to happen.

The pilots were a fun touch. Leia and Tarkin took me out of their scenes because they didn't look real. It'll be interesting to see what my wife thinks since she won't be aware that she's looking at a CGI actor

This really was an excellent prequel for making you care about the OT, though. It gives the entire conflict, and especially the start of a new hope, a whole lot of extra gravitas.


Also, perhaps not surprisingly, this movie seems more indebted to Rebels than anything else in terms of the action and the characters.

Just out from the second viewing. Now it makes sense. And the emotional power came. It doesn't have huge big problems apart from pacing issues (hello reshoots) and trudging repetitive exposition at a few points. it's got a great many smaller problems that sting the scenes they're in. You'll see them. but they're small things Star Wars fans will maybe not see or forgive and certain film fans with an eye or critics will. It has film making problems. It doesn't really have Star wars problems.

Disagree with the above post. There are a bunch of references fans will get. (Watch for the blue milk!) and a certain name gets called at some point. And loads of others.


The end though. Holy fuck. The best Star Wars in all Star Wars.

I thought the pacing was fine. The story drags early on due to the plotting and characterization

It's a totally different animal than forceawakens but they are both the Star Wars films we needed at the time of their release.

I've watched FA countless times the last year but I can't see myself going back to this very often. Not even the last 45.

Though it is fun to stick on a new hope right after seeing It. Changes the game for the better.

I just rewatched the original teaser and theatrical trailers. Holy fuck, so much was not one the original movie.
