Yeah, like u, I'd still like to know if i had it. It could put my wife at ease if i did have it but it seems like the jury might still be out on whether or not people can become immune to it after having it.

Sorry for your (imminent?) loss. The fact that people literally can't be there in person for those lost/suffering is the worst and scariest part of this whole thing. I can't imagine having to sit home while someone I know is dying.

RS, your situation sounds rough. If you are a truck driver though, can't you in the long eventual run find work closer to your family? I mean, now is probably the time when everybody holds their breath and waits for it all to pass so I do mean eventually

you're not wrong, but there's the psychological damage of isolation to weigh too. even if he stays for a short while (at a distance), it will probably mean a lot to him.

Yeah add to that list just sheer loneliness.

These measures are way overboard. If you are high risk, stay home. Let the overwhelming majority of the population live our fkn lives.

Look, there is definitely a non zero chance I kill myself in the year 2020 but you need to educate yourself better on the situation. Even if you lock away old people that still leaves millions upon millions of people who will shed the virus everywhere and overwhelm the health care system. Back at square one. We need a massive testing apparatus and therapies that can keep people off vents.

Verb’s right, we’re not ready to open things up again, because if this spreads any worse than it already is with the quarantined in place, the health system will be overrun, plain and simple.

A basic example pulled from what you mentioned... imagine sending kids back to school. You won’t be able to keep them from coming in contact with each other, because they’re kids and they don’t fully understand social distancing or like not licking the damn wall. So they spend all day every day passing germs around, then are dispersed back across the population every afternoon to pass on what they’ve collected. I mean, talk about an effective way of spreading a virus.

Of course we are doing serious damage to our economy and way of life right now, but the alternative is far worse, and just a bit more time in the grand scheme of things is needed to get ahead of it. But yeah, it’s tough not seeing people - especially loved ones - for several weeks, so if your dad wants to swing by and visit within the guidelines, it’s probably time to say that’s worth any small risk, because life isn’t going back to normal for a bit.

Apparently with people staying home there are a LOT less ER visits as well. People are hurting themselves less, and when they do, they're afraid to go to the ER and catch COVID.

We went through this calculus right before the lockdown started. My son had sprained his knee, we knew we needed x-rays just in case, but it was too late for his pedi office or urgent care--but we knew that the hospital had just instituted a one-parent-per-child thing in the ER, so one of us wouldn't be allowed in, so we just waited until the next morning and went to the pediatrician.
