better than force awakens, liked it a lot.

The Force Awakens seemed to have this incredibly positive if not downright jubilant initial response and then slowly started losing favor with the fans as time went on. This one seems to be getting much more of a mixed reaction. I wonder if it'll swing the other way.

Ok. I caught both Chopper and The Ghost this time.

I loved TFA. I didn't love this. I haven't seen TFA since the theater and I still remember the names of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, BB-8, and Kylo Ren. I saw RogueOne last night and only remember Jyn Erso.

I have a feeling that that was almost the intention. That the rebel cause was greater than any individual.

That and they didn't have to market these characters to the masses to last at least two more episodes. This was meant to be a standalone story. I get your point though. I couldn't remember the blind guy or his buddy's names.

I don't see why anyone would care more about Poe than Cassian who is more likeable, and so similar. I'd take K-2SO over BB-8 any time. Droid vs droid, he is funnier, better suited to the franchise, and supplies more adult humour(and I don't mean in a raunchy way.) I'll give TFA a star for overall cast though. It's a different sort of story, and TFA takes more time in building every character, both new like Finn, Rey and Kylo, but it also has all the classics in Han, Leia, Chewbacca and Luke.

Some of the dialogue was way too corny. I didn't like any of the new characters except for Jyn Erso and K2SO. I really disliked Cassian, and I HATED the blind guy - seemed very out of place in a Star Wars film. The Death Troopers were completely underutilized. The only part I really liked was from the moment Vader turned on his light saber until the very end - and that was what, 2 minutes? Thought the CGI Tarkin was cool, and the rebel pilots from A New Hope were a nice touch.

Their names are mentioned all the time. They're just thinly drawn characters. It's an example of how setting something within the framework of the main star wars story (which this certainly is) helps the film. You care about what happens because you care about the larger conflict and you have the emotional investment of the Alliance/Empire struggle to power the story. Rogue One was well done and greatly enhances that aspect of the narrative, but it would have really struggled if it had to create that investment. I'm not sure I really hated the empire because of this movie

and the most despicable thing the empire did, the destruction of Jeddah, had the human elements downplayed to focus on the larger effects and visuals. Edwards just doesn't seem good at the human elements of tragedy. It's fortunate he was so good at the scale

, but I really got swept up in the conflict in act 3 because I could read my hatred of the empire back into this film.

It's hard to compare BB-8 to K-2S0. They are totally different characters filling totally different roles in the film. Having said that I liked BB-8 more

I loved Poe. Cassian was just sort of mopey, but that's also how the characters were written.

I've been critical of elements in this film, but I'm still going to see it again next week, and was super excited to recommend it to my friends. The stuff that works really works. I just think FA was a bit more magical from start to finish

I think the first half of Rogue One drags. That's when I caught myself saying "this isn't as much fun as Force Awakens." It's a different kind of movie, so maybe it shouldn't be "as fun" as Force Awakens, but nonetheless, I couldn't help that comparison in my head.

Also, I have the same complaint that I have with Rebels. Why the fuck do Stormtroopers even wear helmets. Is there NO padding? It only takes one light blow to the head, and they're out. When I played intramural hockey in college, someone could blast me in the back of the head with a stick, and I'd never even know it happened.

Force awakens is a lot more magical and it's characters a lot more engaging than R1.


Not a spoiler but did you guys spot the Jedi statue/mountain? It's in it twice but not the shot from the trailer.
First time camera is at a really low angle heading towards it so it looks like it's facing you or kneeling. The second is a close up of the face with Saws people standing beside it.
