fair enough. I'm not sure it ever stops looking, but I do get the feeling (from that album) that it does start to doubt whether or not it is going to find that way out. But you're right--that's not really defeatist.
It probably does doubt from time to time, but it never gives up. Never. There' so much fight in that album.
but increasingly little confidence that they'll win. It's a rote struggle from someone who knows they are supposed to fight, but is starting to wonder why.

the word try is really important there, as is the delivery and the mournful solo that closes out the song. It's almost like a requiem for a crushed spirit. Not fully dead, and still kicking, but getting weaker.

Hope isn't fucking real if you're not being downtrodden when you begin to find it.

The word is important. But I'm not sure we agree on the reason why. The delivery is just Rocky in the corner right before Eye of the Tiger Starts and Mr. T's head almost flies off.

Pearl Jam played that in Mexico City right? In '03?

They could find the recipe for all or none and bake another cake, and I'd eat that shit up!

I'm kind of struggling with the possibility that there may not be a 10th album coming. What evidence do we have?

It probably is just an Eddie solo thing for the movie, given that there hasn't been any other news about an album.

I thought the Steve Gleason article that he wrote for Peter King's MMQB on si.com last Monday was pretty strong evidence this thing is done or very close, given that Gleason mentioned he is scheduled to interview the band about the 10th album and has heard some if the album.
There's a post in this thread about it, I'm just too lazy to look for it.

there is plenty of evidence that the album is done and will be coming in the not too distant future. The only uncertainty is whether mind your manners is an ed solo track, a soundtrack song that the band also recorded, or a pearl jam single.

I, for one, would rather have a proper Ed solo album than a new Pearl Jam album.

I wouldn't mind an Ed album but I'm a little bored of them doing everything else but Pearl Jam so this one wouldn't be as well received.
