Our supreme Court justices can stay in office until they die if they choose to.

As a local comparison, Paul Keating (Aus PM 1991-1996) is younger than Joe Biden, which kind of blows my mind.

Even John Howard (Aus PM 1996-2007) is three years older than Biden and was thought of as being old when he lost office at 68.

At 59, Amy Klobuchar is older than many of our PMs have been on taking office.

Anyway, sorry for the momentary Australian diversion.

I'm with you there. They act ashamed but deep down they love their strong man Donald. And anyone who would vote for Biden but not Sanders over Trump is a fucking asshole.

My FiL is a pretty conventional boot-strapper/Keynesian economics guy: He thinks everyone should be able to pull themselves up from their bootstraps as he did, he believes in a progressive rather than a regressive taxation system, and he's content to let states define their own laws around social issues. He's also a class act and textbook professional: He will never say a bad word about anybody in public, and generally looks to the best in people.

The Tea Party movement has been difficult for him, because their regressive economics and attempts at evangelical rule from a Federal level make him uncomfortable. But he's held his nose and continued to vote GOP as he always has. But Trump and his cadre are a bridge too far, as are the Sanders and Warrens of the world. Biden (and Klobuchar, whom he also liked -- again, this is a guy who I believe has never once voted D) are comfortable to him because they're familiar.

I'm not saying he's out of touch or not practicing his own brand of tribalism, but I think there are a lot more just like him that need to be considered.

And Bernie is a fucking joke. His ideals are great, but he has yet to, in any meaningful way, demonstrate exactly how he would accomplish his goals with a Republican-controlled Senate and conservative bench. His would be the most lame duck presidency since Carter.
