One should also note that our first flu death was in September or October, and our first COVID death was late March.

Where are you in NC? I'm from there. I just found out that my family, almost all of them, think the stay at home orders are a conspiracy to ruin the economy and ultimately hurt Trump's reelection efforts. I've gone from angry, to despondent, to freaked out and back to pissed. I've tried to empathize in my head, but all I can see them as is brainwashed by conservative media. My sister texted me yesterday saying, "I don't know why the response to this virus is so over the top compared to other viruses. I'm just not sure the underlying reasons, but it doesn't seem right." I'm thinking about writing a well thought out email and bcc'ing everyone. I've ignored a lot of stuff for the sake of our relationships, but I feel the need to talk about this one.
