I just saw the highlights of this. Wouldn't a camera in CF be no different than the television feed?

Any one else find it funny that MLB didn't schedule Jeter's last game at home but instead in Boston?

I didn't know what you were talking about, so I looked it up. The first five articles that came up in my search we're all defending Jeter/bashing Olbermann.

It really does have a "don't speak ill of a man on his deathbed" kind of feeling to it, doesn't it? Even something as simple as saying he's not one of the best Yankees ever or that he's not a top ten shortstop of all time is blasphemous.

Keith Olbermann suggested that Graig Nettles and Mike Mussina were better Yankees than Derek Jeter.

I don't care how much you hate Jeter or are bothered by his farewell. That's just fucking idiotic on every single level.

I appreciate the positivity surrounding a sports figure for once. I don't care if he is a Yankee, a Laker, or a Patriot. Here's a high profile, high level athlete that played under the biggest spotlights for 20 years and he hasn't cracked once. It's a bit refreshing.

Has any team shit the bed so hard, so close to the finish line as the Mariners. On a five game losing streak where they gave up 42 runs in the first four losses and then get shut out in the fifth loss. Getting back to back phonecalls from my Dad at 6pm west coast time to remind me the Jays are winning 10-2, ugh.

The 1987 Blue Jays were up 3.5 games on the Tigers with 7 left to play. They finished the season 0-7, including 4 losses to the Tigers, to miss the playoffs. The losses weren't as lopsided (they got outscored by the opponents by only 11 runs in those 7 games) but... seriously... 0-7.

But yeah, the Mariners have just completely collapsed. Their pitching was awful the first two against the Jays, then Walker was outstanding yesterday and Buehrle completely shut down their bats. The A's owe the Jays a huge thank you for salvaging their season.

I just saw it and it's just as dumb as it was when the Yankees accused the Jays of doing it.

I don't get why teams get pissed about that sort of thing, isn't it to be assumed that the other team is always trying to steal your signs?

I was at the 1-0 Sunday game when Larry Herndon hit the homerun and Frank Tanana pitched like Cy Young. Tiger Stadium had something like 50,000 there that game. It was one of the best games I've ever been to.

I enjoy Keith Olbermann but his rant on Jeter (though entertaining) was inaccurate at times.

So what's MLB going to do tonight if it rains in New York like it's supposed to? Are they going to treat it like any other game, and cancel it ahead of time like they should do? Or are they going to wait it out and play until 1:00 a.m., all because it's Jeter's last game and people paid thousands of dollars for tickets? And if it's cancelled, are they going to make the teams play on Monday, even though it will be meaningless game and they would otherwise just cancel it?

I'd put the Rangers collapse in 2012 up there with some of the most epic collapses.

The Rangers had a steady 5-6 game lead in the division all year. They spent 156 games this year in first place by themselves. Two other games they were tied for first place. The only days they were not in first place were the second and third games of the year and the final game of the year. They lost seven of their last nine games, including five to the Oakland Athletics who ended up winning the division. I saw this Rangers team play live on Labor Day in KC. They won 8-4. Darvish had incredible stuff that day and Hamilton, Cruz, Beltre and Young all went yard. Matt Harrison was probably having a better year in the rotation than Darvish and the bullpen (Nathan, Uehara, Ogando, Mike Adams, etc) was stacked. I feel like teams that win titles have a guy or two (maybe more) who have career years. Harrison, David Murphy and Craig Gentry were having those. I was convinced on this day that they were going to win like 97-100 games and win the World Series. They were playing that well. Oh what could have been.
