Wrong thread!
This is supposed to be the thread where we post about stuff like local minimum wages being raised to the point where businesses offering said minimum wage jobs are forced to close down.

It happens a lot and the ones that stay open either reduce their hours or increase the price of a cheeseburger to $35

Yesterday I convened a meeting with a half dozen state legislators to discuss overturning a law they passed earlier this year. I asked them to meet at my office but most of them requested it be on zoom (pussies) so we had to do that.
I started the meeting by making clear we would talk to each other on a first name basis, because I cannot stand the decorum of addressing them as “Representative Whosywhatsit” and “Senator Somethingorother”.
Didn’t take long for them to admit passing the law was a mistake and will make it a priority to fix. But it will take an entire year because they convene annually and next session isn’t until January, then whatever they do generally takes effect in July.
The legal process is so fkn jacked up. Ugh. We all have to live and comply with this law which they (privately) admitted creates rules that they did not intend because they “didn’t catch” some of the elements contained therein, and how other existing law interacts with it.
This is what happens when people who have no idea about XYZ topic write law governing said XYZ topic.
Fkn libtards.

I vaguely knew of Katie Porter, but don't think I'd seen her on video until this week. State Dems/ media conspiring to knife her and make sure Padilla or Becerra have an open field? Seems kind of early in the 2026 race to do that.

NC has been operating without a State budget for 4 months because the Republicans can't agree on how hard to screw their citizens, but they somehow managed to come together and redistrict our state into 11 Republicans and 3 Democrats. We were 51/48 in the last election.

I have a Krist Novoselic story that could go here, but I think it will get more views if I bump the Nirvana thread with it.

Mind boggling what Republicans perceive as priorities.
Here in Missouri, we like to vote for things that are eventually taken away from us. At least we got our redistricting map through quickly!

The US obsession with gerrymandering blows my fucking mind. It is blatant cheating by both parties, whichever happens to be in power at the time and there's no end to it. The whole political system is just fucked up.
That your elected officials spend their entire time rigging the game to try to ensure their future re-elections and continued power is unconscionable, but of course, that would require those in power to actually have a conscience.
And yet it continues and will do so ongoing. Crazy.

Yes, need to figure out a way to draw maps independently, and term limits
