He just took it out on the refs at the end, instead of teammates. Which in my book makes him a good teammate. But yeah, he was pretty offsides.
A lot of reporting I've seen (including some tweets that have now been deleted; all of which I can't totally vet, so take with a grain of salt) says Toney did get clearance from the line judge. Reid also spoke to this, too.

The fact that he was offsides is only part of the story/problem here. Yes, he should be onsides. Get right and we don't have a problem. But when this happens a dozen times a game and never gets called, when the player reportedly did check with the judge, when on the same play there is blatant illegal contact from two defenders against Toney that goes completely uncalled (and should have at the very least resulted in off-setting penalties) and when the play before the SAME ref called the same foul AGAINST the Chiefs, that's when it's a fucking issue. There's a ton more context to this than just "Toney was offsides and Sore Loser Mahomes lost his shit!" -- to be clear, Ruddo, I know you're not saying that. I agree with your post above.

Pat is obviously mad at his WRs. And Ruddo is absolutely right that he's a good teammate and leader for not throwing them under the bus. That's absolutely true.

this.

also, toney has not been great this year.
This is also true.

Love the dude, but I think we can say he's cost the team games more than once this year.

To me it's even worse when you know your friend/teammate is wrong and you double down and blame the correct, innocent party and take your anger out on them. Ref'ing is hard, and you can't catch everything happening on the field. They caught something that was in fact wrong and made the call. Sometimes calls work out in your favor, sometimes they don't.

Good teammates hold each other accountable. Toney messes up way too much.

I guess sore losing is contagious.

I don't know. A guy coaches 25,100+ offensive snaps in his entire career and has offensive offsides like this called... once. Andy might be justified in his comments. But who's to say?

Man the angle Bleacher Report just put up from the sidelines sure looks like Toney checked with the ref. He turned his head away fast so maybe the ref told him he wasn’t good and he missed it.

So who is in the wrong? The player that keeps breaking the rules or the officials who didn’t call him on it?

It’s like when you have a friend who is a cop say “if someone is going 5mph over the speed limit i don’t pull them over” then get mad at cops when you get pulled over

One thing’s for sure. The Chiefs will be checking every offensive play going forward that they aren’t offsides.
