This is still true, but I'm sick and tired of having to say this. This defense was just terrible today. Too many penalties and too many times they let the Chiefs convert 3rd and longs. I don't see how they can escape Seattle next week if they keep playing like this. Sucks that the Chargers caught them on a really hot day on the road.

They just look...off. You're right, the defense was horrible on third downs and extremely undisciplined with all the offsides. My silver lining is maybe they're working on something and they will peak at the right time. But it seems like something is not right.
This is the second straight game with no Ronnie Hillman and I didn't notice Omar Boldin out there either. Wonder if there is some internal stuff going on. I've never seen Peyton, even with the Colts, go after someone like he did with Julius Thomas today.

THIS, from simmons' mailbag:
Q: You know how you and Sal mentioned being unable to tell Julius Thomas and Demaryius apart? Here are a few clues:
1. Orange cleats = DT, White/Blue = JT
2. Orange gloves = DT, Blue gloves = JT
3. JT shoulder pads have padding going farther down to the lower back.
Hope this helps!

BS: How the hell am I supposed to remember that? Can’t one of them just switch their number to 13? How many confusing 80/88 moments are we supposed to have? These are two of the 10 best fantasy receivers in football — they have the same name, they’re built the same and their numbers look the same. It’s ridiculous. I can’t take it anymore. I’m adding this to the list of Roger Goodell failures — no competent commissioner would allow this!

Sigh. Hell of a fight, at least. I realize this is Seattle we're talking about, but the offense still looks out of sync. DT's foot looks like it's clearly hurting him. Let's hope they work out the kinks in the bye.

Helluva game. I have an issue with the play calling as far as the running game goes. I don't know if Gase or PFM deserves blame, but fucking line up and RUN at them instead of trying these sneaky/cute draw plays.
Other than than that, the Defense looked great (other than in OT but yeah, they were probably pretty gassed. Also Russel Wilson). And what a drive at the end. I'm getting old and don't pace much during football games anymore. But I was doing laps around my living room while my dogs barked at me.

Joel Dreeson was on local radio this morning saying he's not a Montee Ball believer. I'd have to agree, he's sloooooow.
He said it's time to see what Juwann Thompson can do with some carries, but overall, the Broncos just aren't built to run the ball.

One of my favorite things that they do here on local radio is listen in on the opponents' local sports radio coverage.
So...last week, they cut over to the Denver morning show to hear what people were saying about the upcoming game.
Even better is that they play the opponents' play-by-play of the game in the days following the game. So we got to hear the homer Denver announcers call the end of Sunday's game. I didn't personally listen to this one but I've heard many before. It's a real treat.

Interesting statement by Dreessen considering he was teammates with Ball for a year. I'm just hoping that the adjustment of Franklin to LG is part of the reason why the run game (and really, the offense in general) just doesn't seem right. And playing a defense like the Seahawks earns some leeway, too. Maybe we'll all too spoiled from the Broncos putting 50+ points on some teams from last year.

The first time they tried the draw on 3rd and long, even though it didn't work, I didn't think it was that bad of a call. The second time they did it was just dumb.

Broncos seemed to be playing scared at times, with the draws and a few other plays. I'd be interested to know how much control Peyton has in critical moments--when they ran on 3rd against the Ravens in that playoof game, for example. John Fox is ultra-conservative and it seems like he and Peyton have differing views on what to do in certain instances.

There was a play (can't remember which week) in which they had a 4th and 1 at midfield and Peyton did the classic quick snap to try to catch the defense with 12 men. Part of me thought he also did that before Fox could sent out the punt unit.
But yeah, Broncos fans grumble about Foxball all the time, as they know how many times Martyball undid the Browns, Chiefs, and Chargers, sometimes in their favor. Unfortunately, once Peyton retires he'll probably want to go overboard with the running game again. But he is good on defense, which is a refreshing change given that's one aspect Shanny could never figure out in his later years.

I would love to have him back, especially if JDR gets head coaching offers again. Unfortunately, judging by last night's performance the Saints need him more than the Broncos do.

Adios, Prater. He'll always be in Broncos lore for the 64-yarder, but cutting him frees up $7m in cap space that can go toward DT, JT, Knighton, Harris, etc.

Smoke weed every day. He'll never be Jason Elam.

Broncos fans complaining about the running game need to realize that Arizona and Seattle are the #1 and #2 defenses against the run. And guess what the rank of the next two opponents (NYJ and SF) are? Yep, #3 and #4. This isn't getting "fixed" anytime soon.
Oh, and also, PFM.

Demaryius...when someone asks you, if you're a god, you say YES!

I must say though, yesterday was the first time I've ever muttered the words, "Wow Ronnie Hillman looks pretty good today."
Also, for people freaking out about J. Thomas' chop block. I don't see it as a cheap shot as much as further confirmation that Thomas is completely inept as a blocker.

By that point, the Cards were so gassed that any RB would have hit those holes, including Ball if he was healthy.

Yes, exactly. Blocking is what could keep JT's new contract number down. I've lost a bit of respect for Arians for still harping about this.

Kind of an ugly win but I'll take it. Too many penalties and they let their foot off the gas late. Running game looked good though. Now a tough set of games coming up. Three months ago I never thought I'd be more worried about the Chargers than SF or NE in this stretch.
