Every song on this is better than every song on S/T.
I'd say they're embarrassed the chose that record to be carry their name. Ed was so uninterested he couldn't even pick a name. And came up with clip art for the sleeve? And let's not talk about the complete lack of musical effort. I am embarrassed for them.
Backspacer is an immeasurably better record.

It's not very close. Self Titled has Parachutes, Marker, and Army Reserve. Backspacer can't touch those.

Oh hell yeah. Blurghspacer has a few okay tunes but it's highs aren't really a match for the best of S/T either.

I would accept backspacer and maybe even lightning bolt if it didn't represent a decade of pj history. If backspacer came out in 07 - 08 and they followed it up with something better than lightning bolt in 2010, b.s will still be a poor album but I think people would accept it more as a quick detour and like it for what it is.. Maybe

Agreed. Backspacer remains the low point, whatever issues LB has.
