Dude, those idiots consider the 2009 Philly shows to be "gold standard". Their opinions are meaningless.

We dont consider Bugs and half baked versions of rarities to be what constitutes a great show.

They get too much hate. Get over it. Night 3 is a great show. Night 4 was very fun. It wasn't perfect, but it was a blast.

honestly, ive only listened to these shows on youtube. im more than sure the terribleness of these shows on bootleg is exaggerated here. my point was, people here go batshit over bad rarities all the time. its not something unique to the pit.

It's not only the rarities that sucked in Philly. Their performance was sub-par all around. There are a few great moments, such as "Gonna See My Friend" and "Parting Ways" from show #3. But because these shows were a one-off, I don't think the band was prepared to play a lot of songs they attempted to play, and on top of that, everybody did a little bit too much partying. I was not impressed in person, and especially not after hearing the bootlegs. Maybe it was great if you were there, but as official bootlegs, they are far from essential. I'm responding to the folks who mention these shows first if someone asks for recommendations, or put these shows in their top 10 of all-time. There are dozens of shows that would make better purchases than these over-hyped and over-rated slop-fests.

I didn't completely hate the experience of those shows, but they were definitely poor enough performances that it was noticeable at the show, and not just on the bootlegs. I was kind of lying to myself about that after show 1, but it became harder to ignore as the run went on.

Spot on with the few gems that stand out. Parting Ways was fantastic.

I got the worst ever performance of "Evacuation" in show #2. I was hoping they would play it, but I soon regretted the decision. It was like a 4-minute long train wreck. I was ready to walk out right then and there.

That's how I felt about No Way. I was so excited when the song started, but by the time it ended I wished it hadn't happened.

I think one of the reasons these shows stand out in my mind as being so poor, is that many songs are not only bad performances, they are the worst performances of all-time. I can forgive an occasional sketchy version of something. It's the high level of suckage verses the high level of hype around these shows that makes them worth criticizing. I think the band knows this, since they delayed the official boots for a long time, but it probably didn't make any difference because most fans won't notice anyway. They are wowed by the setlists and the confetti dropping from the ceiling.

I was at night one of that Philly stand and that was the first and only time where I noticed how poorly (mostly Ed) they were playing. I usually get too swept up in the show to notice the flubs. I still had a good time, but it was such an odd experience.

They were cool shows to listen to, but I've never had any desire to hear them again.

Thanks for the info.
I think I asked this to Chud once and he said Apple Lossless was either the same or similar to HD audio, so I went with Apple Lossless. Please don't quote me, though.

HD Audio is just audio at a higher sample rate and bit resolution than your standard 44.1khz 16bit CD quality. ITunes, like most media players, should be able to play files regardless of their sample rate and bit resolution. So yeah, I'm pretty sure itunes will play the "HD" audio files.

Apple Lossless is simply Apple's proprietary version of FLAC.

It works natively in iTunes without any further conversion, unlike FLAC.

Actually, ALAC was open sourced in 2011, so it's not proprietary anymore. But it's certainly not as universally accepted as FLAC.
