It just could be me...But, seems like it is just a bunch of leftover tracks from Backspacer...Plus maybe a few new tracks that wasn't any part of backspacer..

Ed did backspacer without the band, thats different.
The band also recorded a bunch of songs without Ed.
I use to say that BS is almost Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jams.
Mostly of the songs are Eds songs, and buncho of the other he "Put a bit of fixing on it".

I really hope that the next album have less Ed, and more of the Pearl Jams.
This album is going to suck regardless. Pearl Jam's problems are a lot deeper than just "well if ed had less control it would sound awesome".

Pearl Jam doesn't care anymore. This isn't their passion. It shows.

I hate to admit...But, I totally agree with you..

Nothing against OP...Just hate that the band really doesn't care anymore...

im pretty sure Mike thinks that quoting about the new one being the logical follow up to backspacer is something positive for PJ fans...they seem to think most of pearl jam fans love backspacer ( i kinda think the same) and not, let say, binaural.
i cant imagine him saying something like, we are trying to write something similar to Binaural to the fan base.

Didn't Jeff or Stone say something about going in an opposite direction from BS for this album? I don't like it that there are some 'punk songs'. They need to give it up with that style of songwriting. It just does not suit them anymore. If by punk they mean 'Grievance' okay......but I have a feeling their idea of punk is more 'Supersonic'

If anyone follows Team Gleason on Facebook, he is the guy that us a friend of Mikes who has ALS. Anyway, he mentioned being in the upcoming Rolling Stone along with news about the new Pearl Jam album.

They just need to make a record for themselves, not to anyone else's expectations.

Hi everybody!

I read somewhere last year that Stone said in an interview Mike wrote a song with some Motorhead influence, so if we had this song, and the Pink Floyd Vibe in other songs, and Of the Earth we are talking about a great album. However I am not that excited when Mike said very recently that there is some punk rock in the new songs. When I think in punk rock songs, I remember Ole, Supersonic, Gonna See My Friend, Comatose, and these songs are good but not memorable, so are we going to have more of these songs again?.
It would great if Mike play more like the new Mad Season song Locomotive, that would be insane in a Pearl Jam record. I hope in the new album Eddie's input is not as big as it was on Backspacer, I wish it would be more Mike, Stone or Jeff.

They really took that "Mother" cover seriously, huh?
and eddie vedder was asked by rodger waters to sing on "comfortable numb" recently. hopefully the pink floyd sound rubs off on mr vedder and he stops trying to write pop songs and love songs.

I don't think anyone in PJ gives a shit what Mike says anymore. The positive thing i see from thoae comments is that they are working it during the Mad Season rerelease. Hopefully that album rubs off on the band. But I'd rather they take another 4 years and make the album we have been patiently waiting for since tha Binaural tour ended.

I tremble at the thought of what an album's worth of Backspacer leftovers would sound like.

Maybe they left out the more """"""experimental"""""" songs, so who knows, might be good.

I do hope there is some Mad Season influence on Mike that will rub off for the next album. But even if the light bulb goes on in his head after hearing how great he used to sound, his playing will still be dictated by what the band as a whole decides to bring to the table. There was no room for a November Hotel on Backspacer for example.....we were left with "patterns".

I think King Animal is what has a chance to really impact Pearl Jam's direction with album 10. Stone and Mike have both talked about how much the like the record. Mike even played with them live and on Eyelids Mouth. I also think most Soundgarden fans have accepted King Animal as an album that belongs and can be included in the back catalog. Unless Ed puts a little fixin on the next album too....I can see the guys wanting that same sort of approval Soundgarden is probably feeling come from their fanbase. Deep down they have to know their studio work hasn't been up to snuff in a long while now...
