"I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing" is a great lyric.

The best lyric in the pearl jam catalog follows this. Only surfers normally know what lefts are, being on the lip, and late take offs are.

Eddie personalizes this and if you ride waves, you love this subtle cryptic lyric.

Binaural is by far my fav album. I love the tour, I love how they took a huge risk. I know most hate this album, but its better than anything riot act and on.

People love Binaural in this corner of the interwebs, except maybe stip.

pointing out all the wave references in the lyrics is sure to gain him some support, tho.

Tchad Blake's Binaural
1."Breakerfall"
2."Insignificance"
3."Evacuation"
4."Letter to the Dead" Later renamed to "Sad"
5."Rival"
6."Grievance"
7."Light Years"
8."Of the Girl"
9."Thin Air"
10."Nothing as It Seems"
11."Fatal"
12."Sleight of Hand"
13."Soon Forget"
14."In the Moonlight"
15."Parting Ways"
16."Education"

O'Brien's Binaural
1. Breakerfall
2. God's Dice
3. Evacuation
4. Light Years
5. Nothing as it seems
6. Thin Air
7. Insignificance
8. Of the Girl
9. Grievance
10. Rival
11. Sleight of Hand
12. Soon Forget
13. Parting Ways

So O'Brien and PJ tought the heavier songs where not mixed right... then O'Brien made the final sequencing different....

I have to say that i listenned to both track listing and my opinion on this is : "Chad you nailed it good man!!!" Don't get me wrong i love Binaural... on of my best... but with Blake's track listing this is a masterpiece!!!! So listenning again to Binaural made me change the album back to Chad Blake's Binaural on my ipod... Sooo good!!!

Parting Ways should of been the final song on Blake's list... sorry Chad :) Education is awesome... but not placed last....

How the fuck do you keep Evacuation and Soon Forget but let go of Fatal, Sad and Education? I will never understand.

I just really can't get myself to care about the tracklisting stuff. If Binaural needed the help, maybe. And if we hadn't gotten those songs so quickly after the record was released, I'd feel more like we were missing out.

Let it Ride and Cold Confession are far more frustrating to me because the record they were made for really needed the help.

I agree that Blake's tracklisting is the much better one, and yes it could've been/should still be considered a masterpiece. As for Parting Ways being the last track, I partially agree. When I listen to it, Education comes up as the "hidden track" at the end, which fits perfectly right after the Writer's Block segment.

However, to PJ and O'Brien's defense, I do agree that the "harder" tracks were not mixed properly by Blake. Songs like NAIS and Of the Girl sound masterful when done by Blake, but listening to the original mixes by Blake, songs like Breakerfall, Evacuation, Insignificance, Rival sound completely neutered and void of any real muscle.

So although I completely agree with PJ's decision to let O'Brien to remix the final tracks, they made a big mistake in letting him handle the re-tracking.

are we even sure that he re-tracked them? I mean, ultimately it was the bands decision.

I think they've said that they re-tracked it with O'Brien, but the buck does stop with them, of course.

I do have some problems with the original tracklisting. Education at the end makes no sense to me, and I think Insignificance comes way too early in the record. Also, the second half of Binaural as it was released, from Insignificance onwards, it's probably the best 'side' of music this band has ever done, and the tracking is great; I'd be wary of messing that up.

It sure as hell "looks" like a BoB-influenced decision at least

In the Moonlight isn't bad either.

The flow of side 1 is also fine. There's just too many weaker songs in the mix

10."Nothing as It Seems"
11."Fatal"
12."Sleight of Hand"
That would have been one of the most depressing and greatest 3 songs runs

Side 1 is weaker than side 2, but for me to say it's poor would be like saying a four-star song is bad because it's tracked next to a 5-star song.
