Habit is fierce and wonderful, I'm a lot more conflicted about Grievance.
I don't know who Steve Albini is, so no.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Could you guys imagine "Grievance" produced by Steve Albini?
It's the only way I know how to put it. It's difficult to explain. But, yeah, the song feels like it's got all the energy its expending but it's moving way slower, like it's underwater, than it should be.theplatypus wrote:"Underwater-sounding"?
Yeah, that would work.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Could you guys imagine "Grievance" produced by Steve Albini?
I'm conflicted about Grievance as well. Obviously, I think it's better than Habit, but other than that, I'm with you.Birds in Hell wrote:Habit is fierce and wonderful, I'm a lot more conflicted about Grievance.

What your describing is kind of what I like about it. It has this vicious energy that is struggling to escape from its muddy production/sound. That song is the sound of struggle. It's intense.durdencommatyler wrote:It's the only way I know how to put it. It's difficult to explain. I'm not saying it sounds slow or anything. It's just an overall quality or element to the song. It's most of No Code really. And I find it exceptionally endearing or engaging on most of the other tracks.
I feel like you see the positive aspects, but don't fully appreciate them for what they are. Habit is perfectly placed on No Code, whether it breaks any perceived momentum or not.durdencommatyler wrote:I don't like anything about it except Ed's delivery. It's grating and unrewarding. It's boring and shopworn. It's aggressive yet meandering. Nothing engaging about the arrangement or lyrics. There's an attempt at some kind of teeth grinding, manic energy, but it all comes off whiny and underwater sounding.
Removing it makes No Code a better record. It doesn't add anything to album, but instead halts a pretty fantastic momentum.
Sorry man. I don't like to get into the technical side of Music, Movies... etc. I feel like it ruins the magic if you know too much.LoathedVermin72 wrote:What the fuck Tommytommymtcom wrote:I don't know who Steve Albini is, so no.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Could you guys imagine "Grievance" produced by Steve Albini?
