Was the movie already in the works when it was cancelled?
I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
If Lynch had his way, he would never have revealed who killed Laura.
Man, this wait for the next episode of the current series is killing me.
Wait. I thought Bob, thru her dad, killed her.
I read your statement wrong.

FWWM isn't going to help you with that finale, but it's a solid two and a half hours living in Laura's world. You get a great Bowie cameo too in one of the most disorienting scenes in movie history.
Side note; Angelo's score in Fire Walk With Me is arguably better than the original series.
So, what the fuck happened? Are the souls of the ones who died there in the Black Lodge or were they all evil doppelgängers? Is Annie dead? Jesus.
I'm guessing the finale aired before the show was cancelled. That's the only reason to have left so much unturned.
You'd need to refer to Brad Dukes'
'Reflections' for a firm answer but I think they had a reasonably good idea that the show was going to be canned when they made the series finale.
The show was floundering and they had reason to believe it would be cancelled so the through as many cliffhangers as possible into the finale to try and force a third season despite poor ratings.
The film was not planned before the show got cancelled.

Re-watching the part 3 scene with Lucy, Andy and Hawk. Didn't notice the logo on the donut box the first time around. "RR2GO!". Nice touch.

I suddenly remembered the creepy, shadowy charcoal faced figure with the disappearing body and floating head next to Matthew Lillard's jail cell. What the fuck was that? Updated BOB, I guess?

I assumed it was this guy, from above the convenience store with Bob and co. in Fire Walk With Me
It is suspected that he is The Log Lady's husband.
- Spoiler: show
- In The Secret History of Twin Peaks it says that he was a big time logger in town. On his wedding day to The Log Lady there was a fire in the forest. He went out to help put it out and was killed in the fire. Hence, the blackened body.
Regardless, in an interview with EW Lynch said there is more of him to come.

Once I've escaped the Week From Hell, I think I'm finally going to watch Twin Peaks.

Birds in Hell wrote:That period a few years back when they released, over the course of a few months, every moment of music recorded for the original series and FWWM was one of my most exciting musical experiences ever.
On this, here's mix I made a few years back that uses mostly tracks from that series of releases (the Twin Peaks Archive) as well as a handful of tracks from the other soundtrack CDs.
DARK PEAKS
1. Distant Train
2. Love Theme (Piano & Rhodes)
3. Audrey's Dance (Percussion & Clarinets)
4. Dark Mood Woods (Studio Version)
5. Night Life in Twin Peaks
6. Deer Meadow Shuffle (Film Version)
7. Nightsea Wind
8. The Pink Room (Extended Version)
9. Laura Palmer's Theme (Dark Synth)
10. The Red Room
11. Log Lady Presence
12. Harold's Theme (The Living Novel)
13. Theme from Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me
14. Night Bells
15. Laura Palmer's Theme (Ethereal Pad Version)
16. Dark Intro #3
17. Love Theme (Dark)
18. Trail Mix
19. Twin Peaks Theme (Harp & Guitar)
Note: it's in Apple Lossless, I can upload another version if that's an issue for anyone.

ST - I watched that Mulholland Drive video last night. Thanks for sharing. Thinking about that and Spenno's apple lossless contribution, I'm reminded of how well the main theme reinforces Lynch's ability to manipulate. Is there a more perfect example of a hope & fear bait and switch than that theme? This has been discussed a lot when talking about Twin Peaks, but I can't help but bring it up again.

So, are any of the loose ends from the original finale attended to in this new season?

Was Wally's paternal parentage a cliffhanger? I forget what was going on with Lucy and Andy at the time of the finale.
