For those vexed by Reid's verbiage, I interpret "guitar passages that rise slowly like ember smoke from the remnants of a spent campfire" to mean, in plain speak, ascendant guitar lines played out of tempo.

Like most things musical, I just don't have the vocabulary. But yeah, that sounds exactly right. If in doubt, put the song on for yourself, then light a match and blow it out. If the music syncs with the rising smoke, then it belongs in this mix.
