Re: MLB
Crazy to think this is the last weekend for #14.

I know it's not a big deal outside of our fanbase, but inside of it it's a huge fucking deal. I'm gonna miss PK. It's gonna be weird without the Captain. Glad I got to see him play one last time last week in St. Pete.

Re: MLB
One of my best friends is a White Sox fan. Paulie is his favorite player of all time. He is bummin right now. I was expressing my excitement the Royals made the playoffs (being only 3 hours away and my friend and I both went to HS with Alex Gordon so I kind of root for them a little) and he didn't care much. He is gonna miss #14. I think he dislikes Ventura as manager more than you haha.Lament wrote:Crazy to think this is the last weekend for #14.

Re: MLB
I would hate Ventura as a manager more if I thought he were hurting a team that had the potential to win more than 75 games. When they hired him, I assumed it was because they were giving up on the next three seasons and starting from scratch and they thought that bringing in an extremely popular former player to manage would buy them some patience and good will.
The surprise success of the 2012 team up until the last few weeks tricked a lot of people into thinking there was something to Ventura. He managed to avoid any blame or criticism for the way they completely imploded in the second half of September and choked their way out of the playoffs. Now, to be fair, that team had no business being in the playoffs. At the same time, they should have put up a better fight over the past two weeks.
I think people have finally accepted after this season that he has no idea what he is doing. I really hope he's gone before next season. I think they have a chance to get back over .500 with the right manager next year. He's gotta be gone by 2015, which a lot of experts are pegging as their return to real contention.

Re: MLB
It was pretty funny. It was the night Jose Quintana pitched eight shut out innings at Fenway and left with a 1-0 lead only for Thornton to come in for the ninth and give up two singles, and then Reed gave up a three run homer to the first batter he faced.
I tweeted something like "What are the odds Jose Quintana sneaks into Thornton & Reed's room tonight and kills them both?" She had like an hour long meltdown on her account after that and sent me lots of nasty tweets.

No. But she was weirdly insistent that her brother was. She said something really fucked up like "Even when my brother fucks up a game, he still looks hotter than anyone else when he does."
It got really creepy.

Happy to see the Royals make the playoffs.
Happy to see Red Sox fans giving Jeter a nice sendoff, but in general, I think the season-long sendoff was a bit much. That Billy Crystal thing was pathetic...'death, taxes and Jeter?' C'mom, man.

Re: MLB
If Seattle wins tonight tomorrow is going to be really fucking awesome. Two potential tiebreaker games if KC/Det tie for the ALC and Seattle/Oakland tie for the second wild card.
