A reason why the prequels were so shitty was due to it not feeling like star wars.
Well, I dunno. Star Wars and Empire really set the bar for engaging, fun, and interesting atmospheres. You've got your Tatooine, your star destroyer/Death Star, and Yavin. There really wasn't much else, and they all felt unique. Empire had Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin--really helped raise the bar. Jedi had...Tatooine, and Jabba's Palace (where they tried to recapture the magic of the cantina, but it felt too manufactured)...Dagobah...a Death Star...at least we got Endor. I know setting/atmosphere isn't everything, but I feel like it's something the first two films nailed and something that was either "meh" to "boooooring" in the other four films.
You're really undervaluing how important Endor was to ROTJ.

Actually, with the starkness of the desert and the shadowed gloom of the throne room, if Endor had been a more serious setting it would have lost any semblance of fun. So basically yeah.

You don't like plot. You don't like set decorations. You don't like JJ Abrams. I'm starting to think you don't even really like Oscar Isaac.
Without telling me the plot, because I am staying spoiler free, has the plot really leaked yet?
Some people say it has. But I haven't read any spoilers or descriptions, so I can't say how real or fake it is. But there have been at least three (that I know of) that have "leaked." The most recent one is the one people are buying into right now. But again, I haven't read it so I just don't know.

My post was making fun of Verm because he thinks plot (in movies in general) is dumb.
I gotcha ya. I remember prior to Sith coming out, I read a bunch of different plots and one ended up coming true and pretty much ruined a good portion of the movie, although that film wasn't all that great.

I have no problem with the Ewoks or Endor. I do have a problem with RotJ amounting to little more than a half-assed remake of Star Wars. The Ewoks and Endor are about the only things I like in that movie. Well, I like the opening up to Han's rescue. Then I don't give a shit until Endor. Then I don't give a shit when we're not on Endor. Then the end is fine as it was originally. The new ending is the worst.

Dude, the intercut Endor/Death Star battle/throne room finale of ROTJ is maybe the best sequence in the whole series. ESPECIALLY the Luke/Vader/Emperor fight in the throne room.

Guys, LV is right. The whole finale is fantastic. Perhaps lazy conceptually but so well executed

But two thirds of it is all stuff we've seen before. It's boring and it's repetitive. It's like the tried to reboot the series in the third movie. Blech.

Sure, I suppose that's fair. I can't call it "poorly executed." They do a nice job with all the zoom and boom sounds and the shots are pretty enough.

How? When have we seen it before? The scale, stakes, and construction of the ROTJ space battle is completely different than the Death Star assault in ANH - the intercutting is an integral part of what makes the sequence so great. The tone, look, pace, energy, and meaning of the Luke/Vader duel in ROTJ is completely different from the one in TESB; the duel in TESB was about conflict, confusion, searching, whereas in ROTJ it's about anger, then ultimately empathy and catharsis. Very different. The Han/Leia/3PO/R2 ground battle in ROTJ has, again, drastically higher stakes and a very different look and feel than the one in TESB. None of this was a "reboot," because it was designed to be the ending. These sequences were all built for catharsis and victory, which was not the case in TESB. It makes perfect sense that we see "new" material introduced in the first two films, and then similar concepts revisited with higher stakes and new meaning in the final film. That's pretty common narrative structure.

I still wish the original RotJ script leaks someday. No Ewoks. :)
