The best way for me to expound on how they are different animals is that at a Springsteen show, the guy is fully aware of the enormity of the moment and makes it feel even bigger. And he believes in his heart that if they play hard enough he can provide rock and roll deliverance. Frankly, in some ways he does. It’s an incredibly joyous but big experience, whether you see him by himself in the Wiltern, or with the E Street Band at the Garden or a stadium.

Conversely, Pearl Jam and particularly Eddie Vedder, have a way of making even the hugest crowds seem like an intimate gathering. I can never put my finger on exactly what it is that they do where by the end of the show you truly feel like you’re in the room with them and your friends - is it the setlist choices? The Eddie babble? The crowd itself? Whatever the magic, you walk out of there that night and it was your show and your night and not some repeated theatrical spectacle- just the purest form of a fan with his band, as if there aren’t another 20-30,000 of folks just like me experiencing the same thing.

I missed Oceans barely. Again.

1996: saw them 9/28/96 at Randall’s Island, they played it 2 shows later in Buffalo 10/1/96

1998: saw them 9/10/98 at MSG, they played it 1 show before 9/8/98 in Jersey

2013: saw them 10/19 at Barclays, they played it 1 show before 10/18 at Barclays

2016: saw them 5/2 at MSG, they played it 2 shows before in Philly 4/29

2022: saw them 9/11 at MSG, they played it 1 show later in Camden 9/14

From 2016, and I’d guess the average ticket price is a lot more than $67 now.

Pollstar have released their lists of the top 200 North American tours, top 200 worldwide tours, and the top 200 concert grosses. Pearl Jam’s two Wrigley Field shows grossed $5,712,625, clocking in at number 50 on the top grossing concerts list. 83,478 total tickets were sold for the two shows.

Pearl Jam sold 418,152 tickets in 2016, with an average nightly gross of 1,859,782, and an average ticket price of $66.71. Pearl Jam performed live 25 times in 2016, so they definitely brought home a nice pay day!

They seem to still have that true band ethos in place, so should we assume they split it five ways?

The 2020 shows (delayed til this year) sold for $98/ticket before fees for US shows.

And let’s assume all the costs of the tour are paid up front and subsidized by the record company or sponsors. So we’re talking gross not eventual net.

Are you getting that subtraction from anywhere? Also curious how much side musicians like Boom and now Josh get paid per show. Is Josh getting paid double because he's also opening the shows?
