Elle
« A successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her.»
French movie. Well acted and interesting story. About one hour left now.

Genuinely think it’s a great movie. Saw it in the cinema when it came out. Loved it then as well.

Took the kids to see Mario last week.
A billion times better than the Spiderman and Sonic movies.

Saw Raw this morning before anyone else was awake. Compared to what others have rated it, I felt it was a little overrated.
Now five hours later, I’m rewatching Hidden Figures as this week’s Sunday matinée.
After this, I’ve got thirty 2016 movies left, 18 first time viewings, and 12 rewatches.

https://amp.theguardian.com/science/the ... cians-book
«In the end, Hidden Figures is an often uplifting film with problematic elements and myopic framing. None of those problems are present in Shetterly’s book, which deftly moves between talking about people and institutions in ways that make the book both a joy to read and an instruction manual for other historians writing the history of technology. Unlike the book, the film tells a straightforward, simplistic story, and does so with rather plodding pacing and humdrum cinematography.»
«Despite being an amalgam of three different Nasa employees, Harrison somehow seems to do no actual work. Perhaps this is a subtle satire of the management class, but it also means his character simply takes up space in someone else’s story. Costner is shoehorned into the story as the white male hero who lifts the women up. The role is problematic, uncritically centring an unremarkable white man in a story about three brilliant black women.»
Was thinking more or less exactly this. Still it’s a good movie about an important subject.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Will rewatch «Lion» and «Your Name» this evening, bringing the 2016 rewatches down to 10.
Your Name now. Excellently made anime.

He has quite the filmography as far as volume goes and though I have only seen a fraction I feel like A Perfect World was the only performance I recall enjoying.tragabigzanda wrote:Costner is probably the most overrated actor of his era

He’s got some good westerns, also The Untouchables and McFarland USA, in addition to those mentioned above.
