Finished Part 1. This Kevin Clark needs to go. In his mind Elderly Woman is their greatest anthem and he calls the third verse the bridge. Fucker doesn’t even know what a bridge is.

Good god. This guy doesn’t like Vitalogy and says the artwork is too basic. He calls Last Exit a slow burn leading into the banter of STBC. He has not a fucking clue.

I'll say it again, but I hate this type of gatekeeping in fandom. Sometimes it's good to hear a different perspective from someone can enjoy their catalog without the intense personal attachment to those early years.

I think this can be argued, if you take Backspacer for what it is. It's pretty good about being what it is. Binaural and Riot Act IMO are quite unsuccessful albums

(Actually Im pretty sure the albums have moved around every time I rank them but I always have Backspacer above Binaural and Riot Act. I used to have LB above them also, but Ive changed that majorly over the years and now LB is bottom.)

I don’t disagree, but this guy is a cut above. His criteria for a Pearl Jam album being “good” is whether or not it would be a good album by Coldplay or someone like that. If it would b a great album by some other band, it’s a good Pearl Jam album. That makes no sense to me at all. Then there’s the fact that he doesn’t know a bridge or and outro from a third verse. Aaaarrrgh! Other than hearing her say “babe” every third word, she was fine. I enjoyed hearing her take on it all. But this guy is just a buffoon and definitely brought down the whole experience.

I'm about 4 hours into part 1 and it's enjoyable. You can tell Yasi put a lot of research into it. With that said, an issue I have is that for at least this episode it feels at times like they're just reading through a Wikipedia listing of Ten and Vs. It's hard to articulate but it's clear that neither of them lived through the album in the moment and it's a little problematic because almost everything they're talking about is the reaction to the music *in the moment*. They just can't add any personal experience to what they're talking about since neither of them were really listening to PJ at the time. It creates some odd dynamics at times like when Yasi talks about Vs. not being that well received critically (which just isn't true).

Also, I think Kevin is fine but he sounds like Yasi called him up 5 minutes before recording out of the blue. I get he's a fan but he sounds like he did zero prep to be ready to discuss the early portion of the band's career.

Also, when they started talking about Vs., Kevin reacted to the tracklist as if he hadn't seen it in like 10 years ("wow, there are some great songs on here...").

I don't mind hearing "babe" every couple of sentences.
I like Yasi. The impressive amount of research is both entertaining and interesting when viewed through her lens.
She is great at conveying her take on the material, valley girl accent and all.

School is wrapping up here in Boulder and the Junior lit class is wrapping up Into the Wild. It's great to hear Ed's voice floating down the hallway.

There's a popular TV format here called "Song of My Life." It's a pretty simple concept: there are five guests, and each picks a song that is somehow a "song of their life." A studio band plays the song, and the guests try to guess after each song who chose it. Once everyone's song is played, each guest tells why they chose that particular song.

They aired an old episode this week where one of the guests, an actor in his late 40s, had chosen Pearl Jam's "Black." It turned out that he had been in Roskilde in 2000. At some point during the concert, he found himself lying on the ground and being trampled by the crowd. He couldn't get up and was in total panic. Then somebody picked him up and took him to the first aid tent. He had some bruises but wasn't badly injured. When he got out of the tent, he went back to see the rest of the concert, only to see, a few songs later, how the concert was stopped and dead people were raised from the crowd.

He said that he got his first and last tattoo after that which is the stickman to remind him that he survived and is still alive.
