They couldnt do that. They don't know her. They belong to captain Antilles at this stage. And As 3PO says to Luke 'a person of some importance I believe'. Plus it would have been corny as hell.

Also, what was she princess of? For real. I guess i dont know that. Bail organa talks about her but mon mothma didnt seem to know her in the film "i would trust her with my life". So, why would she not know who the princess is?

Bail Organa is royalty from Alderaan, his mother was the queen. He adopted Leia, and I believe he was known not as her adoptive father, but just as her father.

I don't think her name is mentioned when Bail Organa talks to Mon Mothma.

Captain Antilles served the Royal Alderaan Civil Fleet under Senator Bail Organa.

Everyone's complaining about it saying it makes it really blurry and disconcerting.

Loved it even more the second time. My two plot hole/confusion-y fanboi gripes:

Why show 3PO & R2 on Yavin IV? That means that Captain Antilles, the Tantive AND Leia would have been down there too at that time, right? If that's true, why wouldn't Leia have been at the council meeting in the base?

I put A New Hope on directly after getting home from my second R1 viewing yesterday. Seemed weird that they kept talking about the Death Star almost being ready but not yet fully operational. We just saw it tested successfully twice in the weeks/days before. We know it works great. Sure they only did a "single reactor ignition" to blow small targets, but the "operational" talk in ANH threw me a little bit.

Minor quibbles in an otherwise incredibly executed connection to ANH. Can't wait for viewing #3.

I totally expected Han to die. There wasn't much suspense - even the going back and forth, it was fairly easy to guess.

I knew it was coming too, but when that lightsaber lit up, I audibly gasped.

I wish that I had that same reaction, but the scene didn't work for me because the death was "too clean." Had Kylo toyed with him, tortured him a bit, sliced an arm off or two, and then finished him off...now that would have caused the shock and awe I was looking for.

Did anyone else have color issues when Jyn met Saw and watched the hologram? When she was talking to him she (and the background) were bathed in a purple light whereas he and his background were the normal brown and sandy colors. It was a little jarring, especially because the purple made it look like someone turned on a TV's soap-opera setting. It was kind of like they were talking to each other over a vast chasm or something because of the complete differences in color.

Speaking of chasms...architects in this universe love their bottomless pits, don't they? The one in the Death Star with Obi-Wan and the tractor beam, Darth Maul/Qui-Gonn/Kenobi fight, Darth Vader throwing the Emperor, the data banks...wtf?

I also liked how Tarkin said, "Vader's taking care of it" and then you are left wondering, "how?" and then right when you're invested into the space battle and the fleet starts to go into hyperspace, a Star Destroyer pops out of nowhere and just plows some mother-fuckers down. Yeah, that was awesome.

Also I loved those space battles. The trailer promised and the movie delivered. So epic.

Wow that was much better than I expected. It didn't feel lifeless like the one Mr Copy Machine made.

Would have been nice to see his take on the new star wars.

It dragged at times and the plot was convoluted as hell, but when it worked, it worked. The callbacks didn't feel forced.

Fake Tarkin is fake.

It's a bit too self contained.
